Peacocks Sweep Season Series Over Lincoln

The Peacocks defeated the Lincoln Blue Tigers for the second time this season, as they won in dominating fashion by a score of 66-41.

Upper Iowa opened the game with one of their best quarters of the season, as they outscored Lincoln 23-4 in the first. The Peacocks jumped to an early 10-0 lead, highlighted by three-point swishes made by Ava Privet and Kayla Bohr. They also ended the quarter on an 11-0 run where they scored three consecutive shots from beyond the arc by Privet, Lindsey Davis and Sydnee Nelson. Anna Soler capped off the run with a contested layup in the paint, as the Peacocks closed out the quarter holding Lincoln to 1-15 shooting.

The Peacocks thrived at attacking the paint in the second, as six of their eight field goals were scored on layups. Brooke Lechleitner began the quarter with consecutive layups, and a pair of Bohr layups extended the lead to 33-12. Following four consecutive free throws by the Blue Tigers, Amelia Valentino added a three-pointer late in the quarter. Lechleitner then capped off a 3-3 shooting performance in the period, by scoring another layup to give UIU a 42-18 halftime lead.

Bohr opened the second half scoring with a basket in the paint, and Mia Huberty would add a layup of her own. Huberty followed that up by knocking down a three pointer which would be the first of four consecutive jump shots made by UIU. Helen Staley knocked down a deep two pointer and Bohr swished her second three of the game, following an offensive rebound by Soler. Privet closed out the third with a pull-up jumper in the paint, to help make it a 57-34 game at the end of the third.

Huberty opened the fourth by scoring on a contested layup, and Davis added a fastbreak bucket two possessions later. Bohr would score the final field goal of the game for the Peacocks in the paint, to help conclude the Peacocks 66-41 victory. Upper Iowa held the Blue Tigers to only seven points in the fourth, while holding Lincoln to 23.8% (15-63) shooting on the day. The Peacocks also knocked down eight threes over the course of the game, while their defensive presence led to Lincoln shooting 0-9 from beyond the arc.

Kayla Bohr dropped a team-high 16-points while shooting 6-11 from the floor, 2-4 from three and 2-2 at the charity stripe. She added six rebounds, two assists and is currently 18-points away from scoring 1,000 career points.
