Upper Iowa men's wrestling earned a second-place finish at the GLVC Wrestling Championships on Sunday, going 1-1 on the day. The Peacocks received a bye in the quarterfinals before defeating #4 Maryville 26-14 in the semifinals. Upper Iowa faced host #2 McKendree in the championship match but fell to them in a 23-17 decision.
The Peacocks will head to the Super Region V on March 1 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
VS MARYVILLE
Treyton Ackman (125) set the tone early, dismantling Sam Shafer with a dominant 15-0 technical fall, giving Upper Iowa an early lead.
The Saints responded with a major decision at 133 pounds as Evan Binder defeated
Dawson Schmit 9-0.
Maryville's Hudson Hackbarth followed up with another victory at 141 pounds, earning a 7-0 decision over
Ryan Wehner. The Peacocks were now trailing 7-5.

Ethen Doty (149) delivered a game-changing performance, pinning Dylan Gvillo in just 33 seconds. The quick fall swung the momentum and put Upper Iowa back on top, giving them a crucial 12-7 lead.
Dalton Schams (157) kept things rolling for the Peacocks, defeating Logan Rubinstein 9-3. Schams' solid decision extended the Peacock lead and put them in control (14-7) before UIU rattled off three straight wins following Schams' outing.
Collin Altensey (165) was next, and he pinned Nehemiah Washington in 1:10. Altensey's fast and decisive win further extended Upper Iowa's lead (20-7).

Lawson Losee (174) stepped up and secured a sudden victory win over #11 Cole Ritter.

Colter Bye (184) continued to build on Upper Iowa's commanding performance, winning a hard-fought 4-1 decision over Dalton Litzsinger.
The Saints rattled off the last two wins of the dual, starting with Jeramiah Larson, who earned a major decision over
Hunter Bye, winning 9-0.
The heavyweight bout saw #2 Ryan Herman of Maryville defeat Upper Iowa's #15
Clayton Ours in a sudden victory. Although Maryville picked up the win at 285, it wasn't enough to close the gap, and Upper Iowa held on for the 26-14 victory.

The match opened at 125 where
Treyton Ackman dropped a 14-5 major decision to McKendree's Jason Strope, giving the Bearcats a 4-0 lead. At 133 pounds,
Dawson Schmit responded with a 5-1 victory over Anthony Bernardo, bringing the score to 4-3 in McKendree's favor.
However, McKendree regained momentum when
Ryan Wehner fell 9-1 by major decision to #3 Ronan Schuelke at 141 pounds, extending the Bearcats' lead to 8-3. The match then shifted when Upper Iowa's
Ethen Doty, ranked #9 at 149 pounds, faced #7 Joey Semerad and pinned him in the first round (1:46). Doty's explosive victory put the Peacocks ahead 9-8.
The Peacocks' momentum was halted when
Dalton Schams lost 8-1 by decision to James Hoskinson at 157 pounds, giving McKendree a 11-9 lead. The Bearcats extended their advantage when #7 Cory Peterson defeated
Collin Altensey 4-2 at 165 pounds.
At 174 pounds, Upper Iowa's #3-ranked
Lawson Losee faced #7 Matt Ortiz in a tense 2-0 decision loss, furthering McKendree's lead to 17-9 with only three matches remaining.
Colter Bye (184) got caught during the third round of his match and was pinned by #11 Zeke Waltz, sealing the victory for McKendree and giving them a 23-9 lead heading into the final two bouts.
Despite the match outcome, #15
Geoffery Freeman notched a dominant 16-4 major decision over Shamon Handegan at 197 pounds, earning bonus points for the Peacocks. Finally, in the heavyweight bout,
Joshua Gaye rounded out the team's efforts with a 15-4 major decision over Ridge Schutte.
