STORM LAKE, Iowa - Upper Iowa men's wrestling won five out of 10 weight classes with 20 different Peacocks placing at Saturday's Buena Vista Open. Cael Bridgewater (141), Owen Denstad (149), Lucas Henderson (174), Braxten Westendorf (184) and Matthew Marcum (197) each took first place at the open. 

Marcum had the most impressive win of the day in the first-place match at 197 pounds. He defeated CJ Carter of Iowa State with a fall in overtime at 7:01. Marcum won by tech fall in round one, a 2-0 decision in the quarterfinal and a 4-0 decision in the semifinal. 

Bridgewater had a fantastic day with two tech fall wins, a win by major decision and a win by fall. He beat Logan McDonald of Iowa Lakes CC by technical fall in the 141 championship match. 

Denstad and Cale Nash both reached the finals at 149 pounds. Denstad took first by medical forfeit. Denstad totaled two wins by fall, one by tech fall and one by a major decision, while Nash had a major decision and tech fall win. 

Henderson made the semifinals after two tech fall wins. He won by an 11-6 decision over Sam Rock (Iowa Western CC) in the semifinals and took first after a 17-10 win against Zach Fern (Iowa State Wrestling Club). 

The Peacocks also had both finalists at 184 pounds in Westendorf and Griffin Luke. Westendorf won in a 3-2 decision to take first. Before that, Westendorf won in sudden victory over Damarcus Powe (Iowa Central CC) in the semifinals, and Luke won by fall over Trevor Kruse (Buena Vista). 

Along with Nash and Luke in second place, Preston Klostermann (157) and Reily Dolan (165) also made championship matches. Both of them fell to Iowa State wrestlers in the finals. Dolan picked up a win by fall and two wins by major decision en route to the championship match. 

Jackson Heaston (125), Tanner Arjes (141), Collin Altensey (157) and Geoffery Freeman (197) each took third. Brock Shaha (133), James Lovelady (141) and Hunter Bye (197) placed fourth. Nick Mueller (165) and Jose Del Toro (285) finished in fifth. Kale Hansen (157) placed seventh, and Jonah Luensman (141) took eighth. 

The event featured 13 total teams, highlighted by Division I No. 2 Iowa State, which brought 10 wrestlers. Three of the top four junior college teams in the NWCA rankings were also in attendance. 

Upper Iowa will prepare this week for the Midwest Classic hosted by UIndy on Dec. 13-14.
