Peacocks break program 3-point record in GLVC opening win over Quincy

Privet and Nelson total career highs in 91-83 victory

QUINCY, Ill. - Upper Iowa women's basketball (3-3, 1-0 GLVC) knocked down a program record 17 3-pointers in the GLVC opening win over Quincy (Ill.) (3-3, 0-1 GLVC). Five Peacocks scored in double digits in the 91-83 win.

Ava Privet led the way with 24 points, making seven out of 10 3-pointers. That marked a career high in points for the junior guard as she played a team-high 39:29 of the game.

Sydnee Nelson had her most impressive game of the season so far, scoring a career-high 20 points with seven assists and five rebounds. She was 7-of-10 (70%) from the field and 3-of-5 (60%) from behind the arc.

Bryar Duwe scored a season-high 19 points, coming up one short of her career-high. She made a team-high six free throws while recording six rebounds with five assists. Duwe played tough as she drew a team-high 10 fouls.

After an early 9-9 tie, Quincy went on an 11-2 run to get its largest lead of the game at 20-11. The Hawks ended the quarter outscoring UIU 16-7 after that 9-9 tie to lead, 25-16. Quincy shot 8-of-13 (61.5%) from the field in the opening 10 minutes.

Quincy maintained that lead midway through the second quarter, 30-21. After that, the Peacocks went on a 9-0 run to even the game at 30-30.

Both teams went back-and-forth the rest of the way, with Quincy tying it at 43-43 with four seconds left. Off the inbound, Nelson banked in a half-court buzzer beater to give Upper Iowa the 46-43 advantage at halftime.

The Peacocks kept that momentum rolling into the second half, extending the lead to 61-51 for the double-digit advantage. Josie Foster was a big part of that, scoring a couple of buckets in the paint to help gain the firm lead. Privet knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers late in the quarter to lead 77-61 after three.

Quincy threatened to come back in the fourth quarter, getting the Peacock lead down to seven. Ellie Foster knocked down the 17th 3-pointer of the game with 1:34 to go, extending the lead back to 10 to give UIU the insurance it needed to win.

Josie Foster finished with 14 points, making it back-to-back games with double-digit points for the freshman. Ellie Foster totaled 12 points with two assists, two rebounds and two steals. Kenzie Deaton was the only other Peacock to score with two points while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out two assists.

Upper Iowa finished the game 31-of-61 (50.8%) from the field and 17-of-34 (50%) from behind the arc. The Peacocks were 12-of-17 (70.6%) from the free-throw line. This was the highest 3-point percentage for the Peacocks since last season's Lewis (Ill.) game on Jan. 9 and the highest field goal percentage since the Truman State (Mo.) game on Jan. 16.

Quincy was led by Katey Flynn with 23 points, while Hampton Williams added 15 points. The Hawks shot 26-of-50 (52%) from the field, 6-of-11 (54.5%) from behind the arc and 25-of-32 (78.1%) at the free-throw line.

The Peacocks had 19 assists compared to seven for the Hawks. UIU outscored Quincy 23-12 off turnovers. The Hawks outscored UIU 38-24 in the paint and 24-14 off the bench. There were five lead changes and six ties in the contest.

This marks the third straight season the Peacocks have broken or tied the school record in 3-pointers. Upper Iowa made a previous-best 15 3-pointers against Judson on Dec. 18, 2024, and against Crown on Dec. 17, 2023.

Upper Iowa will now prepare for a six-game home stretch in December, starting with a game against Lincoln (Mo.) (3-4, 1-1 GLVC) on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.
