FAYETTE, IOWA - Upper Iowa women's basketball (2-3) defeated Clarke (3-5) 80-61 on Monday afternoon inside Dorman Gym. Ava Privet led Upper Iowa in scoring with 17 points, followed closely by 15 from Josie Foster and 14 from Kendyl Lodermeier.
Five players scored in the first quarter for Upper Iowa as it jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the opening ten minutes. The freshman duo of Lodermeier and Foster bookended the first frame, as Lodermeier scored four of the first six points for Upper Iowa and Foster nailed a three-pointer just before the buzzer.
UIU built on its fast start with a 14-4 run to start the second quarter as Privet knocked down two three-pointers in four minutes. The Peacocks led 34-15 at halftime, connecting on 14-of-35 (40%) first-half shot attempts and outrebounding Clarke 25-19 in the first 20 minutes.
An 11-of-15 (73.3%) mark from the field in the third quarter gave Upper Iowa a season-high 30 points in a quarter. The middle of the quarter produced a 16-0 run for UIU in just over three minutes. Eight of Foster's 15 points came in the third quarter.
Privet shot 5-of-9 (55.6%) from behind the arc in the game, adding the final two points on her tally from the free throw line. Her mark from three-point range inside Dorman Gym this season is now 11-of-21 (52.3%).
Foster's career-high 15 points came on a 7-of-14 (50%) shooting performance, as the freshman guard made a habit of getting downhill against the Pride defense. Lodermeier had a career-high of her own, finishing with 14 points and going 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Sydnee Nelson and Bryar Duwe contributed all-around performances for the Peacocks in the win. Nelson scored six points, hauled in four rebounds, dished out five assists and had a team-high three steals. Duwe added five points and led Upper Iowa with seven rebounds and seven assists.
Reese Ryan led Clarke in scoring with 15 points. She added seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks in 30 minutes of action. Zoe Kennedy finished second for the Pride in scoring with 13 points.
The Peacocks finished the game shooting 30-of-66 (45.5%) from the field, 9-of-24 (37.5%) from behind the arc and 11-of-14 (78.6%) from the charity stripe. The Pride were 23-of-61 (37.7%) from the field, 5-of-14 (35.7%) on 3-pointers and 10-of-16 (62.5%) on free throws.
Upper Iowa had a season-high 33 points off the bench, headlined by the scoring from Foster. The Peacocks outrebounded Clarke 43-35 and scored 15 points from 11 offensive rebounds. UIU did not trail in the game, leading by as many as 41 points.
GLVC play begins for the Peacocks on Monday, Dec. 1, at 5:30 p.m. in Quincy, Illinois, against the Quincy Hawks (3-1). Upper Iowa will next take the floor inside Dorman Gym on Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. against Lincoln (MO) (2-3).
