Hutchinson scores and Wagner posts a shutout in UIU’s 1-0 season-ending victory

Peacocks’ second-half surge helps win season finale against Prairie Stars

FAYETTE, Iowa - Haylie Hutchinson scored in the 57th minute and Isabelle Wagner totaled 10 saves in Upper Iowa's (4-12-2, 2-11-1 GLVC) season finale win over Illinois Springfield (5-9-3, 4-8-2 GLVC).

Natalie Lima created the pressure that forced an errant UIS pass, which found Giovanna Alexa Garcia. She then dumped the ball in to Hutchinson, who one-timed it with her right foot for the score. Hutchinson arced it over the goalkeeper into the net.

Wagner was solid in the net, facing early pressure as she made five saves in the opening 16 minutes of the game. She made six saves in the first half and four saves in the second half.

Illinois Springfield controlled the game in the first half, outshooting the Peacocks 9-2. In the second half, the Prairie Stars only outshot Upper Iowa, 5-2, for an overall 14-4 advantage. UIS had five corner kicks in the first half, while only getting one in the second half. Upper Iowa's lone corner kick of the contest came in the 77th minute.

The Prairie Stars had 15 fouls while the Peacocks had seven fouls. Illinois Springfield was very aggressive in the first half with 10 fouls compared to one for Upper Iowa.

Stephany Castillo totaled two shots on goal for the Peacocks, both in the first half. Meghan Zwicker also had a shot on goal two minutes before Hutchinson scored. Rhea Buchanan, Castillo, Hutchinson, Melanie Mejia, Myriah Roybal and Zwicker played all 90 minutes. Roybal finishes the season playing every minute for Upper Iowa with 1,620 total.

Wagner picked up her first shutout of the season in the victory, also marking the second of her career. She finishes with 223 career saves at Upper Iowa.
