DECORAH, Iowa - The Peacock men's wrestling team had three first-place finishers and eight total wrestlers earn placements at Saturday's Luther College Open. Treyton Ackman (125), Lawson Losee (174) and Preston Klostermann (147) all took first place at the open that featured 550 entrants from 23 teams.Â
In the first two rounds of the Elite 174, Losee picked up a fall and a tech fall. He won by decision over Preston Carlisle of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the quarterfinals and moved on after a medical forfeit in the semifinals. The redshirt junior defeated No. 2 Drake Hayward of Minnesota State, 5-1, in the championship match.Â
Ackman started with wins via fall in the first two rounds of the Elite 125. He then won by major decision over Leo Edbald of St. Cloud State (Minn.) (8-0) and beat Grant Madl of Wisconsin-La Crosse in a 10-4 decision. He took first after a win by medical forfeit of Travis Moelter of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and totaled a team-high 27 points.Â
Klostermann won with two falls, a tech fall and a major decision to reach the championship match of the Silver 157. In the first-place match, he defeated Cole Dummer of Augsburg (Minn.) in an 11-7 decision to score 26.5 points.Â
Ethen Doty took second place, highlighted by a fall win in 46 seconds against Quincy's (Ill.) No. 8 Sabian Russell in the semifinals. He came up just short in the first-place match against Matt Randolph of Augsburg, 4-3.Â
Cale Nash placed third in the Silver 149 and Braxten Westendorf placed fifth in the Elite 184, both losing only one match on the day. Westendorf picked up a 4-3 win over Jaquan East of Minnesota State, who is ranked No. 4 in the region and was a JUCO runner-up last season.Â
Geoffery Freeman placed fourth in the Elite 197, picking up a pair of wins in 10-4 decisions. He finished 2-0 after being pulled out due to injury.Â
Matthew Marcum (Elite 197) and Owen Denstad (Elite 149) both took eighth place. Tanner Arjes, Cael Bridgewater, Kale Hansen and Nick Mueller each had three or more wins on the day as well.Â
The men's wrestling team is back in action next weekend in the Twin Cities at Augsburg's Auggie Open. Action begins at 9 a.m. in Minneapolis, Minnesota.Â
