FAYETTE, Iowa - The wind played a major factor in Upper Iowa women's soccer's (2-6-2, 0-5-1 GLVC) loss to Rockhurst (Mo.) (4-3-3, 3-2-2 GLVC) on Sunday. The Hawks won 6-0 after scoring five goals in the first half with the wind behind their backs.
Rockhurst outshot Upper Iowa 25-6 with a 14-1 first-half advantage. Haylee Allen led the team in shots with two total, one on goal. Aeryn Hatico had a shot on goal in the second half. Giovanna Alexa Farcia, Haylie Hutchinson and Natalie Lima also had a shot.
Avery Harding totaled 10 saves in the net for the Peacocks. She played 63 minutes after entering in relief for Sienna Johnson. This was Harding's first action at goalkeeper this season.
The Hawks scored their first goal three minutes into the game with a score by Anna Lantz from Lexi Matzke. Both Lantz and Matzke totaled two goals on the day. Matzke also had two assists for six points individually.
Rockhurst finished the game with a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Matzke's first goal of the game was wind-aided and curved into the net on a corner kick. The Hawks committed more fouls with 12 compared to seven for UIU.
Upper Iowa travels to Bolivar, Missouri, on Friday, Oct. 10, for its next match against Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (3-7-1, 1-5-1 GLVC). Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
