FAYETTE, Iowa - UIU men's soccer (2-6-1, 1-4-1 GLVC) lost to Rockhurst (6-2-2, 5-0-2 GLVC), 3-1 after being tied at half. Alejandro Sanchez scored his third goal of the season with four shots and three shots on goal.
Upper Iowa took an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of the match. Matas Dumalakas passed the ball toward Sanchez, who was positioned on the front right side of the goal. Sanchez then made the shot in the middle-left side of the goal off his right foot.
The Hawks did not stay silent for long and evened the score at 1-1 during the 23rd minute of the game. Asier Olano threw the ball in from the lower left side of the field to Blake Barrick, who quickly returned the pass to Olano. He then delivered a cross near the right side of the net, where Kaden Cripe met it with a header, sending the ball into the upper left corner of the goal.
In the second half, Rockhurst added two more goals to win the game, 3-1. The second goal came from Cripe once again, finishing off an assist from Blake Barrick in the 62nd minute. Then, in the 89th minute, Barrick found the back of the net himself, scoring off a pair of assists from Immanuel Wayoro and Sam McIntosh.
Sanchez's goal was his third of the season, and Dumalakas recorded his second assist of the season. Sanchez led the team with shots with four and shots on goal with three, while Abraham followed in shots on goal with two.
Noah Nymark-Pedersen recorded four saves on the day. Dexter Garrett, James Moody and Nymark-Pedersen played the full 90 minutes.
The Hawks took more shots (12-10) and corner kicks (7-5) than the Peacocks. Rockhurst also committed more fouls, 13-12. RU goalkeeper Franco Brianani Brunoro recorded five saves in the game.
UIU hits the road Friday to play Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (4-6-1, 1-5-1 GLVC) at 1:30 p.m. before traveling on Sunday to play Drury (Mo.) (1-3-5, 1-3-3 GLVC) at 2:30 p.m.
