ST. LOUIS - Upper Iowa women's soccer (3-11-2, 1-10-1 GLVC) fell on Sunday to Maryville (Mo.) (10-1-4, 8-1-3 GLVC) in the final road game of the season. The Saints scored two goals in the first half and one goal in the second half for the 3-0 victory.
Isabelle Wagner got the start in goal for Upper Iowa and made the record books. She totaled a career-high 17 saves, which is the most in a single match by a Peacock goalkeeper this season. It's the second-most saves in a match in program history, behind 42 from Sara Besaw in 2003.
Aeryn Hatico and Melanie Mejia had UIU's only two shots in the game. Meghan Zwicker, Stephany Castillo, Natalie Lima, Myriah Roybal and Mejia played all 90 minutes.
Maryville scored the first goal of the game in the 27th minute. A handball in the box set up Elsa Nilson Hurtig for a penalty kick goal. Helene Braren scored the next two goals for Maryville in the 45th and 68th minutes.
The Saints outshot Upper Iowa 33-2. The Peacocks had one corner kick compared to 14 for the Saints. UIU had five fouls while Maryville had one foul.
The Peacocks return to Harms-Eischeid Stadium next weekend to close out the regular season against No. 24 McKendree (Ill.) (10-1-4, 10-1-1 GLVC) and Illinois-Springfield (4-8-3, 3-7-2 GLVC). UIU plays the Bearcats at noon on Friday, Oct. 31, and the Prairie Stars at noon again on Sunday, Nov. 2.
