HAMMOND, Ind. - The Upper Iowa volleyball team (2-15, 2-4 GLVC) started the Midwest Crossover on Friday with a three-set loss to Tiffin (Ohio) (3-11) from the G-MAC. Senior Lydia Imbrogno led the Peacocks with 10 kills and eight digs.Â
Alexis Moses added eight kills and three blocks. Kailey Porter had five kills, and Marissa Becker had four kills. Grace Fruzen totaled a team-leading 25 assists.Â
The Peacocks had three different players with double-digit digs. Carley Jonker led UIU with a team-high 13 digs, while adding two aces. Morgan Block and Grace Fruzen each had 12 digs.Â
Leading 9-7 in the first set, the Dragons went on a 7-3 run to take control of the set, 16-10. Trailing 21-16, the Peacocks made a 4-0 run aided by two kills by Imbrogno. The Dragons held strong, getting two final kills to win, 25-22.Â
Upper Iowa jumped out to a 10-3 lead to start the second set, with Jonker totaling two service aces during the run. Tiffin battled back, scoring seven of the next eight points to trail by one. The rest of the set was back-and-forth, but the Dragons pulled away late, 26-24.
Tiffin took an early 10-4 lead in the third set. The Dragons maintained that six-point lead until 24-18. Upper Iowa battled back with three straight points, two off of blocks. Katelyn Owens stopped the Peacock run and ended the game with a kill to win 25-21.Â
The Peacocks were outhit .167-.124 with their best hitting set in the opening one at .233. The Dragons had more aces, 7-5, blocks, 8-7, and digs, 70-62.Â
Parker Vackert led Tiffin with nine kills, and Jade Shada had eight kills. Morgan Morley totaled a game-high 22 digs while Olivia Karhoff had 11. Maggie Pavlansky led the team in assists with 20.Â
Upper Iowa is back in action tomorrow at 9 a.m. against Kentucky Wesleyan (1-14)Â on Hammond Sportsplex Court Four. The Peacocks then face Roosevelt (Ill.) (1-16) on Court 7 at 2 p.m.
