FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa volleyball competes in the Midwest Crossover Volleyball Tournament at the Hammond Sportsplex & Community Center. The event pits 11 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) volleyball teams against 13 institutions representing the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) and 14 programs from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
The Peacocks earned the 12-seed from the GLVC. Upper Iowa has one game on Friday against Tiffin (Ohio) (2-11) from the G-MAC at 9 a.m. on court seven. On Saturday, the Peacocks play the G-MAC's Kentucky Wesleyan (1-13) at 9 a.m. on court four, and the GLIAC's Roosevelt (Ill.) (1-16) on court seven at 2 p.m.

The Peacocks fell to GLVC-leading Missouri-St. Louis (13-4, 6-0 GLVC) in three sets, but rebounded with a five-set victory over McKendree (Ill.) (4-13, 3-3 GLVC) this past weekend. Upper Iowa came back from down 2-0 to earn its first five-set victory of the season.Â
Kailey Porter tallied a career-high 19 kills while hitting .361 in the victory over the Bearcats. She also added three service aces and finished the weekend with 30 total kills.Â
Martha Pace added 16 kills and 15 digs in the win. Alexis Moses smacked a career-high 15 kills while hitting .222. She came alive in the fourth set with a team-best five kills.Â
Grace Fruzen totaled a career high 53 assists and ended the weekend with 84 (10.50 per set). Morgan Block had 32 digs against McKendree, her second-most in a game this season.Â
The Peacocks won the fifth set after taking an early 7-2 lead. The Peacocks took advantage of a few McKendree errors to hold on to the lead. Porter ended the game with an ace to win the fifth set, 15-12.Â
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Pace paces the team in kills with 171 (3.23 per set). She ranks 13th in the GLVC in total kills and 10th in kills per set. Porter is second on the team with 123 kills (2.28 per set) and Moses has 71 (1.42 per set).Â
Fruzen is up to 391 assists on the season, averaging 7.11 per set. She ranks eighth in the conference in total assists and sixth in assists per set.Â
Block is the team leader in digs with 289 (5.25 per set). The sophomore is third in the GLVC in digs per set and fifth in total digs. Pace has 139 digs, Lydia Imbrogno has 135 digs and Fruzen has 130 digs.Â
AROUND THE GLVC
Missouri St. Louis continues to lead the conference with a 6-0 record in GLVC play. Rockhurst (Mo.) (12-5, 5-0 GLVC) is one game behind and UIndy (14-5, 5-1 GLVC) is in third place. Nobody in the GLVC is receiving votes in this week's AVCA Coaches' Poll.Â
LAST SEASON AT THE MIDWEST CROSSOVER
Upper Iowa went 3-0 at last season's Midwest Crossover. The Peacocks defeated Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) in three sets, Lake Erie (Ohio) in four sets and Ursuline (Ohio) in three sets.
Zoe Semelroth led the team in kills with 51, including 25 against Lake Erie. Moses had the second-most with 20 total. McKenna Diermeier led the Peacocks in digs with 44. Upper Iowa is 4-2 in the last two seasons competing at the Midwest Crossover.
ABOUT THE DRAGONS - Friday at 9 a.m.
Tiffin enters this weekend's contest on a seven-game losing streak. The Dragons last won on Sept. 13 against Wheeling (W.V.). Tiffin's closest loss was to Ashland (Ohio) in five sets on Sept. 26.Â
Senior outside hitter Oliva Karhoff leads the Dragons in kills with 112 (2.60 per set). Middle blocker Kaylee Freund has 97 kills (2.26 per set) and junior Katelyn Owens has 96 kills (2.23 per set).
Junior Maggie Pavlansky is the top setter with 355 assists (8.45 per set). She ranks fifth in the G-MAC in assists per set. Sophomore Morgan Marley leads the team in digs with 134 (3.12 per set). Karhoff has recorded 125 digs (2.91 per set).Â
Head coach Cary Clark is in his first season with the Dragons. He previously served as the head coach at Massachusetts Maritime Academy for two seasons.Â
ABOUT THE PANTHERS - Saturday at 9 a.m.
Kentucky Wesleyan has one win this season on Sept. 13 against Point Park (Penn.) in five sets. The Panthers have lost eight straight games.Â
Junior middle Hadley Wolfe leads the team in kills with 128 (2.56 per set). She also boasts a .321 hitting percentage, which is the eighth-best in the G-MAC. Freshman outside hitter Emmy Goering has 91 kills (1.86 per set).Â
Ana De Sevilla-Acosta has 219 assists (4.47 per set) and Juliana Greany has 169 assists (3.45 per set). Senior Maddie Hanshew leads the team in digs with 149 (2.92 per set).Â
Alejandra Jimenez is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Panthers. She was promoted after an interim stint in 2022.Â
ABOUT THE LAKERS - Saturday at 3 p.m.
Roosevelt has one win this season against Kentucky Wesleyan on Sept. 6 in a four-set victory. The Lakers recently lost to No. 16 Ferris State (Mich.), No. 21 Grand Valley State (Mich.) and Wayne State (Mich.), who is receiving votes.Â
Senior Alessia Isgro leads the Lakers with 120 kills (2.22 per set). Freshman Abigail Wutka has recorded 90 kills (2.20 per set), and sophomore Lihi Zaibert has recorded 87 kills (1.71 per set).Â
Roosevelt has three players in triple digits with assists. Senior Zoe Hutchinson leads the team with 196, junior Isa Grana has 111 and freshman Jessica Maier has 100. Senior Cydney Martinez is the team's leader in digs with 157 (3.02 per set), and Isgro has 114 digs (2.11 per set).
