FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa Volleyball (1-14, 1-4 GLVC) fell in straight sets to Missouri-St. Louis (12-4, 5-0 GLVC) on Friday night. The Tritons picked up the victory 25-22, 25-17, 25-21.Â
Graduate Martha Pace totaled 12 kills and her second-highest hitting percentage of the season at .273. She was consistent all night, with four kills in all three sets. Kailey Porter added 11 kills while also hitting .273.Â
Lydia Imbrogno had seven kills and 11 digs. Gtrace Fruzen led the team in assists with 31, her third-highest total this season. Morgan Block was the Peacock's leader in digs with 17. McKenna Diermeier added eight digs.Â
Alexis Moses was a force defensively at the net with a season-high five blocks. She was a part of five of UIU's seven blocks on the night.Â
Upper Iowa got off to a hot start, scoring the first four points of the match. With UIU leading 15-11, UMSL went on a 7-1 run featuring back-to-back kills by Alayna Santel to flip the momentum. Tied 22-22 late, the Tritons got the final three points via Peacock attack errors and a kill by Maggie Johnson.
Johnson was on fire in the second set with eight kills while hitting .533. She scored on three straight kills to give the Tritons a 23-16 lead late in the set. Santel knocked down the final kill for the 25-17 win.Â
The Peacocks controlled most of the third set, building a 20-16 lead late. Missouri-St. Louis took over after that, scoring nine of the next 10 points to take the set, 25-21. Johnson totaled three kills during the final run.Â
Johnson finished the match with 19 kills while Santel added 11. Setter Caitlin Bishop had 40 assists. Skylar Weaver had 14 digs for the Tritons while Rylee Edson had 10.Â
UMSL outhit UIU .273-.174. The Tritons totaled seven aces while the Peacocks had four. Both teams had 51 digs, and both teams had seven blocks.Â
Upper Iowa returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 3 p.m. in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium against McKendree (Ill.) (4-12, 3-2 GLVC). The Bearcats swept Truman State (Mo.) (6-11, 3-2 GLVC) 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 on Thursday night.
