LAST ACTION IN REVIEWÂ
In last Friday night's tough-fought dual in Fayette, Peacock wrestling trumped the Bearcats in an 18-15 decision. This was the second time these two teams have gone head-to-head after McKendree defeated Upper Iowa 21-18 at the NWCA National Duals in early January.Â
Â
The competition was tight in scoring, and every bout was decided by decision except at 125, where UIU's
Jackson Heaston won by forfeit and collected six team points.Â
Â
PEACOCK SENIOR DAY
Men's wrestling will recognize their seniors before Friday's dual against Indianapolis. The seniors that will be honored are
Ryan Wehner,
Dalton Schams,
Colter Bye,
Clayton Ours and
Colby Lopez.Â
Â
GLVC WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Upper Iowa University redshirt freshman
Joshua Gaye was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Wrestler of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.Â
Â
Gaye stepped up to the mat for the Peacocks in the heavyweight bout in the 18-15 win against McKendree and came through with a clutch 9-5 decision over #11 Tyler Hanes. He recorded two takedowns, a reversal, and an escape to fuel his victory and help lead the Peacocks to a tough-fought win.
Â
EARLY CONFERENCE STANDINGS
At this point in the season, UIU is the only team remaining undefeated in conference action. They lead the league at a 2-0 mark, followed by Indianapolis and Maryville at 2-1. Quincy and Drury trail behind with a 0-2 record.Â
Â
UP NEXT
Men's wrestling has one final conference dual against Drury in Springfield, Mo. on Sunday, Feb. 9. The GLVC Championships will be held at McKendree in Lebanon, Ill. on Feb. 16.
