Peacocks Post Convincing Win Over Cardinals

Upper Iowa men's basketball reeled in its fifth consecutive win after defeating William Jewell 75-55 at home. The Peacocks improved to 14-5 overall and 8-3 in the GLVC, while the Cardinals fell to 6-13 on the season and 3-8 in the league.

UIU led for the entirety of the game, and held an advantage as large as 28 (59-31) with 11:19 remaining in the second stint. They separated themselves the first half after a 10-2 run to lead the visitors 18-10. The run was capped off by an and-one from Austin Hilmer, followed by a Nick Reid dunk.

The Peacocks put up another six unanswered points to lead 32-18 with under two minutes left to play in the opening half. A monstrous dunk by Ryan Heise capped off the team's performance and gave them the 14-point advantage (34-20) as both team's headed into the locker room.

The home team held the Cardinals to 0% (0-9) from three in the first half and 30% from the field, while UIU shot 41% from the floor.

The red and black improved their shooting performance in the second half as they hit four three-pointers and concluded the game netting 40% from the floor. Upper Iowa converted 43% from the field and 30% beyond the arc.

William Jewell chipped away at the deficit in the second session, and came back within 16 (59-43) after going on a 12-0 run.

Upper Iowa retaliated with a 10-2 burst, pushing back out their lead and helping fuel their 20-plus victory.

UIU netted 20 points off William Jewell's 16 turnovers, while the Peacocks turned the ball over seven times and fueled just two for the visitors. Upper Iowa saw 21 bench points compared to William Jewell's 10.

Reid finished with a team-high 22 points on 7-14 shooting and went 4-7 from distance. Noah King chipped in 16 points on 6-12 shooting, while Heise added 10 points and swatted two shots.

Men's basketball is back in action on Thursday, Jan. 30 at Drury and Saturday, Feb. 1 at Southwest Baptist.
