Peacocks Quench Victory’s Thirst in Pepsi Arena

Upper Iowa men's basketball picked up their second win of the week as they conquered Quincy in an 88-78 decision. The blue and white improved to 12-5 overall and 6-3 in league play.

The Peacocks held a lead for most of the contest and had an advantage as large as 20 (66-46) with 13:27 left to play.

The Hawks closed the gap and pulled within six points (79-73) with three minutes remaining, fueled by two key runs: a 7-2 spurt from 12:30 to 11:30, followed by an 8-1 stretch from 5:30 to the three-minute mark.

Noah King broke the scoring silence with a turnaround jumper in the paint, giving the Peacocks an 81-73 lead with 2:42 left. After the Hawks answered with a floater at the rim, Nick Reid took over, outscoring Quincy 7-3 to finish the game and secure a 10-point victory.

The game's separation came just before halftime, as Reid sank three consecutive long-range shots, capped off by a buzzer-beating three from Gavin Hershberger. This gave Upper Iowa a 47-31 lead as they headed into the locker room.

Additionally, the Peacocks sparked two significant runs earlier in the half. They went on a 9-2 spurt, which was interrupted only by a Quincy three-pointer. Upper Iowa then responded with another dominant 12-2 run with six minutes remaining in the first half.

Reid paced the Peacocks with 29 points on 5-6 from distance and ten rebounds. His performance was complemented by 25 points from Noah King and 14 from Hershberger. William Kiburis dished out a team-high four assists and nabbed six rebounds, aided by Kyle Hrncir who also grabbed six boards.

UIU shot 48% from the floor and 39% from long range, while QU hit 44% from the field and 32% beyond the arc.

Men's basketball is back in action on home court next Thursday and Saturday against Rockhurst and William Jewell.
