The Peacocks put together a dominant offensive performance as they bested the Truman State Bulldogs on the road by a score of 88-77. Upper Iowa shot a season-best percentage of 55.4% (31-56) in the win, and they converted 38.1% (8-21) of their three-pointers.
Upper Iowa started the game on a perfect 3-3 shooting as
Mia Huberty and
Helen Staley recorded baskets in the paint, while
Ava Privet knocked down a three. Privet added another jump shot on a deep two pointer, before the Peacocks would force a turnover which led to a
Lindsey Davis three-pointer.
Kayla Bohr added to the UIU lead by scoring six consecutive points, and a last-minute shot by Staley would give the Peacocks a 20-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Huberty once again scored the opening basket to start the second, and she followed that up with a three pointer from the elbow. The Peacocks forced another turnover which led to Davis converting her second three of the game from the exact same spot as Huberty, pushing the lead to 28-19. Bohr would once again score six points in a row for the Peacocks, and she got to the foul line on consecutive possessions where she converted all four of her free throws. Huberty swished another three pointer near the halfway point of the quarter, and a Staley steal and assist led to a fastbreak layup by
Anna Soler. The Bulldogs would cut into the lead as they scored on three consecutive three pointers, but
Sydnee Nelson closed out the quarter with an and one layup, giving UIU a 48-38 lead. The Peacocks recorded 28 points in the quarter, setting a new season-high.
Upper Iowa thrived at scoring through contact in the third as Soler and Bohr each scored and-one baskets. Privet continued her efficient scoring night as she scored another three pointer, and she would later add another mid-range bucket. Huberty scored on a shot from beyond the arc on the next possession, and Privet recorded her third three-pointer of the game which gave the Peacocks a 71-57 lead. Huberty closed out the quarter by shooting 4-4 at the free throw line, before scoring a layup with six seconds left to add to the 77-60 lead. The Peacocks season-high 28 points in a quarter record did not last long, as UIU dropped 29 points in the third, shooting 9-15 (60%) from the floor, 3-6 (50%) from three, and 8-9 (89%) at the free throw line.
Staley and Bohr scored two quick baskets in the paint at the start of the fourth, which extended the Peacocks lead to 21. Truman State cut into the lead with a 7-0 run, but any momentum they might have gained quickly faded as Bohr drew a charge with six minutes remaining. Huberty would later ice the game with a pull-up jumper with one minute left in the game, as UIU achieved an 88-77 victory.
Mia Huberty dropped 28 points; a feat she has accomplished five times this season. She shot 10-16 from the floor, 3-7 from beyond the arc, and 5-6 at the charity stripe. Huberty also hauled in seven boards which ranked second on the team and added two assists.
Kayla Bohr put together her second highest scoring performance of the season with 21 points. She shot 6-14 from the field while going a perfect 9-9 at the free throw line. She added four rebounds and one assist.
Ava Privet recorded 13 points on 5-8 shooting, and she converted 3-4 of her three pointers.
Anna Soler scored nine points on 4-6 shooting, while recording a team-high ten rebounds with two assists.
Helen Staley added eight points on 3-5 shooting, while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out a team-high five assists. She also recorded one block and one steal for the fifth time on the year.
The Peacocks will close out their fourth consecutive road game at Quincy, on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.
