Upper Iowa began their GLVC season with a 1-1 tie on the road against the Lewis Flyers.

The Peacocks were firing on all cylinders to start the game as junior Mateo Rodriguez had a shot one minute into the match and junior Emir Basar fired a strike on target at the four-minute mark. UIU then jumped to an early 1-0 lead as fifth year Thomas Walle's first shot of the game found the back of the net, which came on an assist from Rodriguez. The Flyers had a chance to respond in the 20^th minute with a shot on target, but Junior JJ Gonzalez-Hayes picked up his first save of the day and he added another in the 39^th minute.

Gonzalez-Hayes continued to thrive in the second half, as he recorded consecutive saves in the 56^th minute. The Flyers were able to take advantage of a Peacock foul in the 59^th minute, as Arturs Gorodnickis scored to tie the game at 1-1. The Flyers added seven more shot attempts from the 74^th-83^rd minute, and their lone shot on target was caught by Gonzalez-Hayes to give him five saves on the day. Basar recorded his second shot on target in the 89^th minute, but it was saved by goalkeeper Sebastian Doppelhofer, which concluded the game on a 1-1 tie.

The Peacocks will travel to return to Fayette to take on Indianapolis on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m.
