REVIEW OF LAST WEEKEND
The Peacocks made the trek out west last weekend to Rapid City, S.D to take on South Dakota School of Mines and fell by a score of 17-10.  Both teams did all of their scoring in the first half of the contest.

A 27-yard reception by Mante Morrow and an eight-yard reception for Isaiah Gray set the Peacocks up for their first points of the game and first field goal of the season at 37 yards, which Henry Vakerics converted to trail the home team 7-3.

Upper Iowa's only touchdown came in the second quarter on a 12-yard toss from Darryl Overstreet Jr. to Mante Morrow to put them at a four-point deficit to the Hardrockers (14-10).

Five league members have faced one another so far this season. Indianapolis, Quincy and McKendree each have one conference win, while Truman is 0-1 and newcomer Lincoln is 0-2.

Below is the GLVC schedule for this week.

  • McKendree vs. MSU Moorhead (12 p.m.)
  • Upper Iowa at Southwest Baptist (1 p.m.)
  • Truman State at Saginaw Valley State (2 p.m.)
  • Indianapolis at Wayne State (MI) (6 p.m. ET)

GLVC PRESEASON POLL
Upper Iowa football landed seventh in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll after accumulating 25 votes. They edged out William Jewell, who was voted eighth with 14 votes, and GLVC newcomer Lincoln, who rounded out the poll in ninth with 13. The Peacocks trailed close behind Quincy in sixth (29 votes) and Southwest Baptist in fifth (33 votes).

"We're excited about our second year in the GLVC," said Head Coach Jason Hoskins. "We know the landscape a little bit better and are preparing to compete in the league."

The University of Indianapolis was voted the unanimous choice to win the 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) football title in the coaches' preseason poll. The preseason poll is selected by the league's nine head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their team, per GLVC Bylaws.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Southwest Baptist finished sixth in the GLVC in 2023, right above Upper Iowa, who placed seventh. The Bearcats are 1-1 in non-conference play after falling to Black Hills State 24-14 in their season opener and then trumping Oklahoma Panhandle State 42-10.

SBU mainly facilitates their offense through Collin Sutton and Drew Boxwell. In one game played, Sutton has completed 23-28 passes (60.53%) for 271 yards and one touchdown. Boxwell has appeared in two contests, recording four touchdowns and totaling 211 yards.

Jobe Smith leads the team in their ground game, as he has accumulated 140 yards on the season with one touchdown and an average of 6.4 yards per rush. Jordan Kent has three touchdowns on five receptions, with an average of 64.50 receiving yards per contest.

Kellen Curtis leads the team with 12 tackles, while Kaliel Boyd has the team's only interception.
