Fourth Quarter Frenzy Gives Peacocks Life Over Bearcats

Don't count them out until it's over. Upper Iowa football trailed the Bearcats in Bolivar 7-0 for three quarters before coming to life in the fourth and putting up 21 unanswered points. The Pecocks sealed the 21-7 victory for their first conference win of the season and improved to 2-2 (1-0 GLVC) on the season.

"I loved the way our kids fought in the second half," said Head Coach Jason Hoskins. "We had some things that didn't go our way and missed on some opportunities for points, but the demeanor on the sideline was great all day."

Jayden Mitchell paced the Peacocks with 131 yards rushing on 16 attempts for an average of 8.2 yards per rush, his longest being 52 yards.

Koda Gates-Bridges led the team with nine receptions and 64 total yards.

Darryl Overstreet Jr. compiled 180 yards passing and completed 18-25 attempts.

Defensively, Tyler Owen nabbed the team's lone interception on the day while Michael Mulherin and Rhett Smith grabbed four tackles each.

The Bearcats collected their first and only touchdown of the game with 1:55 remaining in the first half on a 13-yard toss.

SBU attempted to put an additional three points on the scoreboard right before the intermission but their 56-yard field goal attempt was rejected by Michael Mulherin.

Darryl Overstreet Jr. broke the silence with just under thirteen minutes to go in the final period on a two-yard rush.

Less than four minutes later, Overstreet tossed a 46-yard bomb to Cam Williams for their second touchdown of the day and the 14-7 lead.

Jayden Mitchell capped off his strong ground game performance with the final touchdown of the contest on a short jaunt up the middle to aid the team in their 21-7 success.

"I'm proud of all the guys and our assistant coaches," noted Hoskins. "They deserved this."

Upper Iowa is back on the road again next weekend against Quincy on Saturday, Sep. 28 at 1 p.m. in Quincy, Ill.
