Peacocks Battle the Beavers in Non-Conference Finale

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S SOCCER… Upper Iowa is back in action for their final non-conference matchup, against Bemidji State. The Peacocks will host the Beavers on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 12 p.m.

SEASON OPENER SUCCESS… The Peacocks are coming off a 2-2 tie against Winona State. Freshman Jordan Goldstein had a phenomenal debut to her collegiate career, dishing out an assist on the first goal before scoring the game tying goal in the 87th minute. Goldstein, alongside juniors Nevaeh James, Natalie Lima and Isabelle Wagner each played all 90 minutes. Wagner also recorded four saves in the game, which included a one-handed deflection at the top left corner of the goal. Freshman Mikalyn Hidde added two shots on goal, with the first shot of her collegiate career finding the back of the net, to tie the game at 1-1. Sophomore Maile Kehano dished out assists on both goals and sophomore Haylie Hutchinson added an assist on Goldstein's last-minute goal.

BOUT WITH THE BEAVERS… Bemidji State has opened the season with an 0-2 record, with both their games ending in 1-0 defeats. Sonia Alfieri has started both games in goal, recording a 83.3% save percentage with ten saves. Midfielder Emma Huelsnitz has played all 90 minutes in both games this season and she recorded an assist during the 2023 season against St. Cloud State. Forward Katrina Barthelt recorded over a third of the Beavers goals last year, scoring twelve times while adding two assists and Midfielder Maria Stocke added five goals and one assist in 2023.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS… The Peacocks will venture to Romeoville, Ill. to begin conference play against Lewis on Friday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. Following the meeting, UIU will return to Fayette on Sunday, Sept. 22 for a 12 p.m. game with Indianapolis.
