Upper Iowa traveled to Winona, Minn. to take on the Warriors of Winona State, falling by a score of 3-0. WSU improved to 3-2 on the season, while UIU shifted to 2-3. The Warriors defeated the Peacocks by scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-17.

The purple and white recorded 45 hits with a hitting percentage of .234. Upper Iowa tallied 25 hits and swung a .054 hitting percentage.Â

Set one was a game of runs. The Warriors heated up with an 8-2 burst to take an 11-6 lead, but the Peacocks fired back immediately with a 7-2 run to tie everything up at 13. Both teams played evenly until the tail end of the set, where the home team ended on a strong note with a 6-1 spree, fueled by three kills and a service ace.Â

The Peacocks came out strong in set two, jumping out to a 9-3 advantage. The Warriors continued to chip away as they played from behind the entire set until they knotted it up at 17 apiece. UIU held a slight edge toward the end, up 21-18, but allowed the home team to rally off five unanswered points, followed by the next two out of three to end the match.

Upper Iowa started with the lead again in set three, being ahead by three points, but Winona State rattled off another six unanswered points to command a 12-9 advantage. The Winona offense put together another six unanswered points to end the match, five of which came from kills.Â

Zoe Semelroth led the way with 14 kills,
Nicole Pozorski paced the team with 18 assists, and
McKenna Diermeier held firm in the back row and collected 22 digs.Â

"The girls worked hard out on the court and I thought our defense tonight was very solid; we just did not score points, and for that, you have to give credit to the Winona defense and block," said Head Coach Jim Dietz.Â

Later this week, the Peacocks travel to Kenosha, Wis. for the Hampton Inn Invitational. They will go head-to-head with Wayne State University and Lake Erie College on Friday at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m, and then take on Ohio Dominican and Parkside on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
