Upper Iowa baseball wrapped up their series against Lewis with one final game on Sunday afternoon, falling by a score of 20-7. The Peacocks led 6-5 heading into the seventh inning, when the Flyers gathered momentum and brought in 15 runs across the last three innings, while UIU mustered three.
Justin Baehler led UIU with three hits on the day, followed by
Gunnar Wicklund and
Gabe Bombardier who recorded two, each of them collecting one home run throughout the afternoon.
As a unit, the Peacocks registered 14 hits while the Flyers tallied 19.
Brayden Deering started on the mound for UIU, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while ringing up six batters during his four innings.
Jason Jennerjohn (0-2) pitched for three innings, surrendering five hits and six runs, five of them earned.
Both teams brought in three runs in the first inning to start off the game. The Flyers gathered another run in the third frame to hold a 4-3 advantage, but the Peacocks responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth to knot the game up.
Upper Iowa held a 6-5 lead after the sixth inning as they scored two runs compared to Lewis' one. The Flyers went on to score 15 runs in comparison to the home team's one for the remainder of the game.
The Peacocks are on the road next weekend as they face the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield. The first game of the series is scheduled for Friday, Apr. 19 at 1 p.m.
