Upper Iowa baseball had a four-run lead over McKendree going into the bottom of the fourth inning before giving up 11 runs to trail the home team 11-6. The Bearcats picked up another three runs in the sixth to conclude the game after the seventh inning and earn the 16-6 victory.
Ethan Sawyer and
Steve Marhefke led the team with two hits while
Gunnar Wicklund had a team-high three RBIs.
The Peacocks were the first to score in the top of the second as they brought in one run after recording three hits. Hall's double down the left field line brought
Brock Zimmer across the plate.
The Bearcats responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame, taking the 2-1 advantage.
UIU tallied three runs in the third after a home run from Wicklund and added another two in the fourth inning, commanding a 6-2 lead.
McKendree let loose in the fourth inning as they scored 11 runs behind seven hits, including two home runs.
Upper Iowa did not put up any additional runs for the remainder of the contest. MCK collected another three runs in the sixth, stretching their lead out to ten which would result in the conclusion of the game after the seventh inning.
Kyle Hrncir (0-3) started on the mound for Upper Iowa.
Brennan Sefrit and
Nick Hartje both made an appearance from the bullpen.
The two teams battle tomorrow in a double-header with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
