Upper Iowa men's wrestling defeated Minnesota State Mankato 24-13 in a non-conference dual on senior day. The Peacocks improved to 7-4 overall, while the Mavericks fell to 5-4 on the season.
The home team compiled seven victories on the mat this afternoon behind three major decisions, one fall and two wins by decision. UIU had the advantage in takedowns (17-10) and reversals (1-0), while the visitors edged out the Peacocks in escapes (18-9).
The dual began with
Treyton Ackman at 125 as he gave the Peacocks a 6-0 lead after pinning his opponent in the second period.
James Davis (133) went to the mat next as he topped Andrew Weiss by major decision (15-6) after executing five takedowns, three of those coming in the third period of the bout. No. 5
Tate Murty wrestled at 141 and hung on to a close match as he held an early lead and was able to hold off his opponent and cling to a slim lead for the win by decision (7-6), putting the Peacocks up 13-0.
The bout at 149 was UIU's first loss of the afternoon.
Jackson Rolfs was unable to come out on top against Isaiah Mlsna, as he fell by decision (11-6), giving MSU their first points of the contest.
The Peacocks won the next two matches as No. 8
Eric Faught (157) and No. 2
Chase Luensman (165) each defeated their opponents by major decision and the duo tacked on eight more points to the team score. Faught recorded five takedowns in his bout to power through to earn the bonus points.
Upper Iowa went one -for-four in the remainder of the duals this afternoon, but had already stacked up enough points to seal their victory.
Colter Bye entertained a low-scoring, yet thrilling match at 184 as he edged out his opponent in the third overtime period after earning the ride time point.

Cameron Lopez (197) both fell by decision, while
Jordan Baumler dropped to Tanner Gaffey by major decision.
The Peacocks have a makeup dual next weekend as they head to Lebanon, Ill. to battle McKendree on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m.
