The Peacocks achieved a 72-70 victory on Senior Day as they defeated the Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars for their third consecutive win.
Brooke Evenson opened the first quarter by cashing back-to-back three pointers within the first four minutes of action. The Prairie Stars were able to maintain their lead for nearly the entirety of the quarter, but a pair of two-point jumpers by
Katie Tornstrom and
Mia Huberty would help reduce their lead to 15-11.
The Peacocks were able to jump ahead two minutes into the second as Evenson converted on a layup and knocked down a three-point shot before Tornstrom made a fast break layup to take an 18-17 lead. Illinois Springfield excelled in the paint throughout the quarter, which propelled them back into the lead at 27-22. UIU ended the quarter on a 7-2 run as Huberty would make both of her layup attempts and
Amelia Valentino added a bucket from beyond the three-point line.
After scoring ten consecutive third quarter points in the victory over Quincy on Thursday, Evenson once again dominated the third as she scored 13 points on 5-7 shooting, making two three pointers while also blocking a shot. Evenson's top-tier level of play gave the Peacocks the lead and a pair of Huberty free throws helped make it a 46-40 game at the end of the third.
The Prairie Stars opened the fourth with a three pointer and layup before a Valentino made a three-point jumper. UIS was able to tie the game at 49 apiece after shooting 4-4 at the free throw line, and they would convert on a pair of layups to take a 55-51 lead. Valentino ignited the Peacocks comeback effort as she converted on another three pointer and a Tornstrom mid-range jumper gave UIU the lead.
Ava Privet would follow that up with a three-pointer on a Valentino assist, before assisting on both of Valentino's layups that helped lead to a 13-0 run for Upper Iowa. Valentino scored her eighth point in a row for the Peacocks at the 1:45 mark and a Huberty layup gave the Peacocks a 69-62 lead with 48 seconds remaining. Kayla Rice was able to hit a three pointer for UIS and she made all three of her free throw attempts on the next possession, reducing the Peacock lead to 70-68. Illinois Springfield have a chance to tie the game but they were unable to convert on a pair of three pointers. Valentino would ice the game at the free throw line, scoring her 15
th point of the quarter, which secured a 72-70 victory for Upper Iowa.
Brooke Evenson wrapped-up her Senior Day with a career-high 28-point performance on 11-17 shooting while going 5-9 on three pointers. She added a team-high nine rebounds with a block and two steals.
Amelia Valentino also put together a career-high scoring performance with 18 points. She shot a perfect 3-3 on two pointers and went 3-6 from beyond the arc.
Mia Huberty scored 13 points on 5-10 shooting. She recorded three rebounds with four assists and added a steal.
Katie Tornstrom had a great all-around performance on her Senior Day, scoring eight points on 3-9 shooting. She hauled in eight rebounds, recorded a team-high six assists, and added a steal and a block.

Bailey Winter were honored before the Peacock victory with cheers from teammates, coaches, friends, and family.
The Peacocks will be on the road for their final two games of the season as they face Drury on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 5 p.m. and Southwest Baptist on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 1 p.m. UIU currently sits at seventh place in the GLVC standings.
