Upper Iowa has made it two wins in a row as they outscored the Quincy Hawks in all four quarters to complete an 81-57 victory. The Peacocks have improved to 12-11 on the year with a 9-10 record against GLVC opponents.
The first quarter was very evenly matched as neither team was able to stretch their lead beyond four points.
Katie Tornstrom started the game 3-3, where she became the 15
th player in school history to score 1,000 points, converting on a midrange jumper at the 6:30 mark. She led all scorers in the first with eight points and the Peacocks were able to take a 17-14 lead to end the quarter on a pair of
Brooke Evenson free throws.
Tornstrom opened the second quarter scoring with a three-pointer, followed by an and one layup by
Kayla Bohr. With a two-point lead, the Peacocks would go on a 7-0 run as
Mia Huberty and Tornstrom both converted on jumpers in the paint before Evenson cashed a fast break three pointer.
The Peacocks dominated the second half, scoring 25 points in both the third and fourth quarter. Tornstrom was sensational on the defensive end, recording four steals in the third which led to a fastbreak layup and an
Amelia Valentino three-pointer. A Huberty three-pointer and back-to-back jump shots by Evenson gave the Peacocks a 50-33 lead and they continued to build on their momentum. Bohr scored on her second and-one of the day at the one-minute mark and Tornstrom swished a three pointer to end the third.
Huberty scored the Peacocks first seven points of the fourth quarter on a made three pointer before going 4-4 at the charity stripe. Evenson followed in her footsteps by scoring the next eight points for UIU as she made a pair of two-point jumpers and also shot 4-4 at the free throw line.
Alaina Brenning recorded two steals that both led to made baskets and also scored four points in the paint in the fourth. A free throw by
Bailey Winter sealed the Peacocks 81-57 victory, wrapping up a fourth quarter where they shot 14-18 at the charity stripe.
The 24-point margin of victory is the Peacocks highest differential since Dec. 17, 2023, when they defeated Crown College 88-28.
Katie Tornstrom recorded 23 points on her historic day, surpassing the 20-point mark for the eleventh time this season on 10-18 shooting. She added six rebounds, recorded a team-high four assists, and matched her career-high with six steals. Tornstrom has scored 1,017 points in her Upper Iowa career, improving her point total each season.

Mia Huberty led all scorers with 24 points on great shooting splits (6-12 FG, 3-6 3PT, 9-12 FT). She had a near identical stat line to Tornstrom, as she also recorded six rebounds and finished with a team-high four assists.
Brooke Evenson recorded her seventh double-double of the season, scoring 18 points on 5-9 shooting while making all six of her free throws. She hauled in a game-high ten rebounds and blocked two shots while adding a steal.
Kayla Bohr added eight points and recorded three offensive rebounds.
The Peacocks will be back for their Senior Day game against Illinois Springfield which will begin on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. UIU will be honoring their five seniors:
