The Peacocks have improved to 11-11 (8-10 GLVC) as they defeated the Maryville Saints in a high-scoring 84-76 match-up, handing the Saints their second loss in their previous ten games.
UIU was on fire from beyond the arc to start the game as
Kayla Bohr,
Katie Tornstrom, and
Alaina Brenning each knocked down a three pointer to give the Peacocks an early 9-5 lead.
Mia Huberty would add the Peacocks fourth made three pointer in a row to push the lead to 14-6, before knocking down a pair of free throws. Tornstrom would sink another three right before the first quarter buzzer, finishing out the Peacocks hot start where they shot 5-7 from beyond the arc.
The Peacocks took a commanding 25-16 lead a few minutes into the second quarter, as
Cassidy Pagel converted on a layup. Following the basket from Pagel, Evenson scored the Peacocks next ten points as she knocked down a pair of jumpers, and made three layups. She finished the half with a team-high 12 points on 6-8 shooting, helping the Peacocks to a 35-25 lead.
Upper Iowa found themselves in foul trouble to start the second half, as Maryville scored three and-1 baskets, within the first three minutes of action. They were also able to force a couple of turnovers which led to fastbreak layups, giving them a 40-37 lead. Tornstrom quickly tied the game at 40-apiece on a made three pointer, which was the first of many baskets she would make in the third. Tornstrom scored eleven points in the quarter on 5-6 free throw shooting and would add another three-pointer at the two-minute mark. Huberty cashed a corner three right before the quarter ended, which cut the Saints lead to 57-54.
Tornstrom and Bohr opened the fourth quarter scoring making consecutive layups, which gave the Peacocks the lead. Bohr added another layup and converted on a mid-range jumper at the four-minute mark, which made it a 69-66 game in Maryville's favor. Following a Huberty layup and pair of free throws, Bohr was able to tie the game at 71 apiece while at the charity stipe. During the Peacocks next possession, Evenson pulled up for three from the elbow, swishing her shot to give UIU a 74-71 lead. Two possessions later, the Peacocks put the ball back in Evenson's hands, and she cashed a three pointer from the exact same spot to push the lead to six with 50 seconds remaining. Maryville was forced to foul, and Tornstrom and Bohr each went 2-2 from the free throw line, to secure the 84-76 victory.

Upper Iowa scored 30-points in the fourth quarter, which is the most they have scored in any quarter this entire season. The Peacocks also shot 10-17 from the three-point line, posting a season-high 58.8% shooting from beyond the arc.
Katie Tornstrom led all scorers with 22 points on 4-6 three-point shooting and she shot 8-10 from the free throw line. Tornstrom nearly had a double-double as she recorded nine rebounds and also blocked two shots. She is currently only six points away from scoring 1,000 points in her UIU career.
Mia Huberty scored 20 points on 2-3 three-point shooting and she shot a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe. She tied her season-high with eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
Brooke Evenson scored 18 points on 8-14 shooting while going 2-4 from beyond the arc. She hauled in six rebounds and recorded a steal and a block for the fourth game in a row.
Kayla Bohr recorded 14 points on 5-12 shooting. She led the Peacocks with four assists and added a steal.
Cassidy Pagel scored all seven of Upper Iowa's bench points on 3-7 shooting. She recorded a game-high ten rebounds with four coming on the offensive end, and added three assists.
The Peacocks will be back in Fayette next week, as they host Quincy on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. before taking on Illinois Springfield for their Senior Day game on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m.
