Peacock men's wrestling picked up its first GLVC triumph on the season in Quincy, Ill. as they shut out the Hawks in a 45-0 defeat. UIU grabbed three wins by fall, three by decision, two major decisions and two tech falls. The Peacocks collected 26 takedowns compared to the Hawks' two.
Upper Iowa improved to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the league, while Quincy fell to 4-1 on the year and 0-1 in conference action.
Dawson Schmit (133),
Ethen Doty (149) and
Clayton Ours (285) led the way as each collected six team points, defeating their opponents by fall. Ours pinned Caleb Groff in quick fashion, only spending 50 seconds out on the mat. Doty pinned Lucas Clement in the first round, taking 1:22 to put him on the mat. Schmit entered into the second round before taking down Damien Flores in 4:09.
Lawson Losee (174) and
Geoffery Freeman (197) each conquered their opponent by tech fall, combining for ten points of the team's total score. Losee recorded seven takedowns to earn his 21-5 victory in 3:57. Freeman collected five takedowns, one escape point and four nearfall to advance to his 20-4 triumph in 5:52.
Jackson Heaston (125) and
Dalton Schams (157) defeated Brian Farley and Hunter Vernon by major decision. Heaston edged him out his opponent 10-2, while Schams defeated Vernon 11-2.
Ryan Wehner (141),
Collin Altensey (165) and
Colter Bye (185) won their dual by decision. Wehner pushed to his victory with a takedown and an escape in the third round to come out on top 4-1. Altensey propelled to a 7-0 victory fueled by a takedown and two near fall points in the first round to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Bye edged out his opponent 9-5, recording two takedowns, two near fall points and an escape.
The Peacocks are back on the mat tomorrow for the Buena Vista Open in Storm Lake, Iowa, followed by a dual with Minnesota State on Sunday.
