Greyhounds Grab Three-Set Win in Fayette

Peacock volleyball versed Indianapolis on their senior day contest Saturday afternoon and surrendered in a 3-0 decision by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-17. UIU shifted to 10-15 (2-8 GLVC) on the season, while UIndy improved to 17-9 and 7-4 in conference play.

Nicole Pozorski finished the match with 28 assists, putting her 17 shy of the all-time career assists record for the program with two games remaining. She has dished out 3,806 dimes in her career and 885 this season.

Semelroth finished the contest with 12 kills, and was complemented by the performance of Reese Martin and Emily Kono with five kills each.

Pozorski and Pace notched two aces, Alexis Moses picked up three blocks and McKenna Diermeier tallied 12 digs.

The Greyhound offense sought out the gaps in the Peacock defense, jumping out to a 10-4 lead in set one, which eventually extended to 13-6. Upper Iowa clawed back and pulled within two (16-14) behind kills from Kono and Semelroth. The teams traded points until the Greyhounds rattled off three straight kills for the 21-16 advantage, giving them the distance to command set one. Indy tallied a game-high .565 hitting percentage.

UIU started hot in set two with the first four points, but Indy responded with four of their own to tie the score up at four apiece. The Greyhounds garnered the momentum and pieced together an 11-2 run to take an 18-12 advantage. The game went back and forth in scoring until Indianapolis took set two by a six-point margin, despite their game-low of nine kills (.161), while UIU managed 12 kills.

Indy began the final frame ahead 6-1 with four kills and two attacking errors on the Peacocks. They soon stretched their lead to 12-3, but Upper Iowa was able to rally back and put together a 7-1 run to trail the visitors 14-11. The Greyhounds refused to back down as they pieced together several more scoring clusters until nailing the last three points of the set for their largest margin of victory on the day (25-17).

The five seniors recognized after today's contest were Nicole Pozorski, Reese Martin, Zoe Semelroth, Martha Pace and Emily Kono.
