A career-high 32 points from
Nick Reid aided Upper Iowa in its 96-88 conquest over Concordia, St. Paul, handing the Golden Bears their first loss of the season. The Peacocks improved to 4-1 on the year, while CSP dropped to 4-1.
The 19 points netted by UIU in the last four minutes came from the hands of Reid and
Noah King, who put together a scoring sensation to come out on top.
The Golden Bears held an 81-77 advantage with 4:56 to play when a Peacock 7-0 run gave the home team its spark and lifted them to a three-point lead, 84-81. CSP had a little more fight left in them as back-to-back buckets gave them their last lead of the contest at 85-84.
A three-point knock from Reid with 2:20 left, followed by a King jumper, gave the Peacocks a four-point lead (89-85). The Golden Bears came down the floor and notched a driving layup to the basket, but Reid answered with another long-range shot to give UIU the 92-87 advantage.
The duo of King and Reid went 4-4 at the stripe at the end of the contest to seal the eight-point victory.
King finished the contest with 20 points and went 6-13 from the floor, while Reid notched 32 points after going 10-21 from the floor and netting 9-9 from the charity stripe.
Gavin Hershberger and
Kyle Hrncir each added 13 points.
The Peacocks rejected nine shots and were led in the category by
Caleb Delzell and
Ryan Heise with three blocks each.
The back-and-forth battle between the two teams resulted in 12 ties and 13 lead changes, with a halftime score that featured a tie at 42 apiece.
Upper Iowa shot 43.4% for the game and 37.5% from long range. Concordia, St. Paul was 49.3% from the field and 26.3% beyond the arc.
Upper Iowa has one more contest tomorrow to wrap up the Peacock Classic. They take on #18 SMSU at 3 p.m. in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.
