Men's wrestling has its first home duals this weekend as they vie with Newman at 3 p.m. and Sioux Falls at 7 p.m. on Friday in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.

LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
The team competed in their second event of the season last weekend at the Augsburg Open in Minneapolis, Minn. The tournament was comprised of two different brackets: the Gold bracket and the Freshman bracket.
In the gold bracket,
Colter Bye (184) led the way in first place behind a 3-0 record, with his last two matches won in sudden victory.
Geoffery Freeman (194) took second and recorded three falls before surrendering by a major decision in the championship round.
Ethen Doty (149) placed second with a 4-1 record on the day. Other place winners included
Dawson Schmit (133) in third,
Caleb Olson (157) in fourth,
Griffin Luke (174) in fourth,
Clayton Ours (285) and
Dalton Schams (157) in sixth.
The freshman bracket was highlighted by three first-place finishes from
Owen Denstad (149),
Nick Mueller (165) and
Braxten Westendorf (184).
James Lovelady (141) took second, followed by
Kaden Kremer (149) in fourth,
Tanner Arjes (141) in fifth and
Jonah Luensman (141) in sixth.
NWCA PRESEASON POLL… The Upper Iowa men's wrestling program received votes (4) in the NWCA preseason poll. Three GLVC members are ranked in the poll; McKendree is the highest in 3
rd (70 points), followed by Indianapolis in 5
th (55 points) and Maryville tied for 8
th (43 points).
THE OPEN MAT RANKINGS… In the latest rankings by The Open Mat, Upper Iowa was listed 23
rd in Dual in Team Rankings, while three individual Peacocks were ranked in the top 20 in their respective weight classes. Listed highest were
Ethen Doty (149) and
Colter Bye (184) in 11
th, followed by
Ryan Wehner (141) in 12
th.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Sioux Falls launched its wrestling program in the 2023-24 campaign, making this the first time UIU will be competing with them. The Cougars were 2-12 overall last season and 0-9 in the NSIC. They had one qualifier go to the NCAA Super Regionals. This will be their first dual of the season after competing in the Jimmie Open, Haws/Elton 4-Team Rumble and the Augsburg Invite.
Newman's wrestling squad is coming off a 2-7 season and a 0-5 mark in the MIAA in 2023-24. Their two wins last year were against Labette Community College and Friends University. They had three individuals place at the NCAA Super Regional and one compete at the NCAA DII Wrestling Championships. This will be the first time the Peacocks compete against the Jets in a dual setting.

Men's wrestling has its first conference dual on Dec. 6 as they head to Illinois to take on Quincy at 6 p.m. UIU has scheduled the Buena Vista Open on Dec. 7 and a dual versus Minnesota State Mankato on Dec. 8.
