Upper Iowa volleyball concluded their 2024 campaign on the road in a 3-0 loss to Missouri S&T. The Peacocks finished the year 10-17 overall and 2-10 in the GLVC. UIU played the home team close in each set, but just came up short, falling by scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 28-26.
Martha Pace and
Zoe Semelroth led the team in kills with 12 apiece.
Nicole Pozorski paced the team with two aces and 40 assists. She and
Morgan Block collected 11 digs, followed by
McKenna Diermeier with 10. Semelroth and
Alexis Moses each notched four blocks.
The Peacocks put together an early 7-1 run in the first set to go up 9-4, but the Miners responded with four points of their own to trail 9-8. Both teams went on runs and traded points back and forth until the game was tied at 22 apiece and S&T went on a 4-2 burst to end the set.
Upper Iowa led the second frame 13-9 when Missouri S&T rattled off seven points to their one, commanding a 16-14 advantage. The Peacocks trailed 23-22 toward the end of the set, but the Miners registered two kills to UIU's one from Semelroth.
UIU came out hot in the final set, getting an early 5-1 lead, but S&T mustered six unanswered points to take an 11-9 lead later in the frame. At the tail end, the Miners rattled off three points to take a 24-22 lead, but a kill from
Emily Kono and S&T attacking error put the Peacocks back in it. With the game tied at 24 apiece, both teams traded points to be tied at 26 all. A Peacock service error and an attacking error gave the Miners the 3-0 win for the afternoon.
