Upper Iowa football defeated Missouri S&T 51-7 to conclude their 2024 campaign with an overall mark of 7-4 (6-2 GLVC) for the program's first seven-win season since 1997. Additionally, this was the team's first time scoring 50 points in a game since 2017, when they trumped UMary 58-14.
The Peacocks scored 41 of their 51 points between the third and fourth quarters, where the Miners tallied their touchdown of the game in the second quarter.
Quarterback
Darryl Overstreet Jr. recorded 341 yards (24-32) and threw three touchdowns. Tight end
Eddie Burgess went for 115 receiving yards, followed by
Cam Williams with 86.
Mante Morrow paced the team with two receiving touchdowns, totaling 53 yards.
Chandler George recorded 62 yards on two receptions.
The Peacocks collected 414 receiving yards as a unit, while the team picked up 597 yards of offense. The Miners tallied 195 yards of offense.
Jayden Mitchell rushed for a game-high 85 yards with one touchdown, followed by
Aboubacar Barry with 52 yards on eight carries.
UIU's first score of the game came on a 22-yard field goal from
Nathan Behne, his first of three for the contest. The Peacocks' initial nine points of the match were all field goals.
The Miners executed a 16-yard run in the second quarter for their only lead of the game, 7-6.
Their first UIU touchdown came on a flea flicker from Overstreet to Burgess to command a 16-7 lead. S&T's next possession saw less than a minute go off the clock as
Braden Powers stripped the ball from the Miners, and
Rhett Smith leaped on it for the recovery. Morrow caught an 8-yard pass in the end zone for the 23-7 advantage right before the intermission.
A 45-yard pitch to Williams opened the scoring in the third, giving UIU the 30-7 advantage. The Peacocks scored a minute and a half later when
Hunter Kane nabbed an interception, setting them up at the 41-yard line. A 37-yard pass downfield to Burgess set them up four yards shy of S&T territory. A short jaunt up the middle from Mitchell gave the Peacocks a 37-7 advantage.
UIU notched another touchdown in the third period from a 5-yard run to go ahead 44-7.
Quarter four was highlighted by
Zacarius Murray's forced fumble and recovery at the one-yard line, shutting down the opportunity for an S&T touchdown.
Chandler George scored the team's final touchdown with under nine minutes in the fourth quarter behind a 23-yard pass from
Clark Coleman.
