Peacocks Claw Past Cardinals After Third Set Shift

Upper Iowa volleyball fell in the first two sets to William Jewell 25-10 and 25-18 before rallying off three straight sets for the come-from-behind win. The momentum of the match shifted in the third set as the Peacocks defeated the Cardinals 25-15 in set three, 25-13 in set four, and 15-8 in the fifth.

Senior setter Nicole Pozorski fueled the team in their comeback victory behind a triple-double with 41 assists, 12 kills and 10 digs. Her performance was complemented by Zoe Semelroth's 19 kills, McKenna Diermeier's 17 digs, and Alexis Moses' six kills and four blocks.

After being trumped by double digits in the first set and hitting a .185 in set one and 0.200 in set two, the Peacocks pieced together their offense and defense after recording a .429 hitting percentage and executing key blocks at the net in set three. The duo of Moses and Marissa Becker put up two blocks at the net amidst a Peacock 9-2 run to take a 23-12 lead.

Set four happened in a similar fashion to the third as Upper Iowa hit its stride with a 7-1 burst after being ahead one (8-7). The run gave them a 13-7 advantage and the confidence to propel them through the remainder of the set ahead by a comfortable margin. UIU recorded five service aces and concluded the set on an ace from Jaeden Cook that dropped right in the pocket of the William Jewell defense.

Upper Iowa took advantage of the six William Jewell errors in set three and was able to get out to a 10-3 jump fueled by a combination of Semelroth and Pozorski slams. A Becker kill capped off the evening for the 15-8 win in set five and gave the Peacocks their second conference win of the season.

The Peacocks hit the road next weekend as they challenge McKendree on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. and the University of Missouri, St. Louis on Saturday at 3 p.m.
