Upper Iowa men's wrestling completed day one of the NWCA National Duals at the UNI Dome with a pair of wins out of three duals at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. A win tomorrow in their 9 a.m. dual versus No. 7 Nebraska Kearney gives the Peacocks the opportunity to compete in the fifth-place match at 1 p.m. However, they are at least guaranteed an eighth-place finish by the end of the event for the 14^th time in 16 years.

The Peacocks strung together 20 wins out of their 30 matches. James Davis, Chase Luensman and Colter Bye were each perfect on the day with a 3-0 mark. Tate Murty, Eric Faught, Cameron Lopez and Jordan Baumler each collected two wins, while Treyton Ackman, Ethen Doty and Lawson Losee added one.

The team's two victories were over No. 20 Ashland 38-4 and No. 18 Northern State, while their loss came to the number one team and two-time NWCA Champions Central Oklahoma 28-9.

Upper Iowa won three bouts against the Bronchos, two by decision and one in a tiebreaker. James Davis defeated Peter Rolle by decision at 133, Chase Luensman trumped Hunter Jump at 165 in a tiebreaker and Colter Bye came out on top against Garrett Wells by decision at 184. Murty dropped his only loss of the day to No. 2 Dylan Lucas by major decision. Lopez' only loss was of the tournament was to No. 1 Dalton Abney, while Faught's fell to No. 3 Gabe Johnson by decision in his only unsuccessful bout of the day.

UIU nearly executed a shutout against Ashland in the second round, but just missed out as they dropped the matchup at 174 by major decision to give up four points. They racked up 38 points in their dual, highlighted by two falls; Doty over Zander Graham at 149 and Bye at 184 over Peyton Lemon. Murty was successful by tech fall, while Ackman, Faught and Lopez defeated their opponents by major decision and Baumler, Luensman and Davis won by decision.

In their last battle of the day, the Peacocks tallied 31 points over Northern State, only giving up six points by decision at 149 and sudden victory at 125. Faught and Losee paced the team with wins by fall, while Bye won by major decision and the five remaining bouts in favor of Upper Iowa were decided by decision.
