Peacocks End McKendree's Nine-Game Win Streak on the Road

Upper Iowa has won four-straight games for the second season in a row, following their 84-75 victory on the road against the McKendree Bearcats. The Bearcats have fallen to 10-3 and their nine-game win streak has come to an end at the hands of the Peacocks.

After a very evenly matched start to the game the Peacocks dominated on both ends of the floor, outscoring McKendree 23-11 in the second quarter. The Peacocks shot 50% from the floor in the second and shot 4-9 on their three-point attempts, taking a 39-25 lead going into the half. They would continue to shoot very efficiently in the second half, making 47% of their shots in both the third and fourth quarters. The Bearcats were able to reduce the Peacocks lead to four points entering the fourth quarter, but Upper Iowa would respond by scoring 27 points in the final ten minutes, securing an 84-75 victory. UIU made 43.1% of their shots and put together a season-best performance from the charity stripe, going 12-13 (92.3%). As a team, the Peacocks outrebounded the Bearcats (42-36) and dished out more assists (16-13).

For the first time this season, the Peacocks had multiple players record a double-double with points and rebounds. Fifth-year Katie Tornstrom led the scoring with 22 points, scoring half of her points in the second quarter. Tornstrom shot 7-17 from the floor, 4-8 from the three-point line and made all four of her free throws. She recorded 11 rebounds, which included a game-high four on the offensive end. Fifth-year Brooke Evenson added 18 points on 6-17 shooting and continued her six-game streak of recording at least one block. She recorded 13 rebounds which is the most by a Peacock this season. Junior Mia Huberty nearly put together a triple-double performance, after playing a team-high 37 minutes. Huberty scored 16 points on 7-19 shooting, and added eight rebounds and eight assists, while only committing one turnover. She recorded both of Upper Iowa's two steals on the day and blocked a shot.

Seniors Kayla Bohr and Cassidy Pagel put up very efficient shooting splits with Bohr scoring eight points on 4-5 shooting while Pagel scored seven points on a perfect 3-3 shooting and brought down four rebounds. Senior Alaina Brenning and freshman Ava Privet rounded out Upper Iowa's scorers with Brenning scoring seven on 2-4 shooting, while Privet scored six points while going 2-5 from beyond the arc.

The Peacocks have had their best start to the season in over 15 years and they will look to make it five-wins in a row as they host the Lewis Flyers on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m.
