Upper Iowa men's basketball concluded their road trip with a convincing 87-61 win over Rockhurst in Kansas City, their second double-digit win of the weekend. The Peacocks have won five straight games and 10 out of their last 11. UIU improved to 13-5 overall and 8-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Peacocks led for the entire game behind their strong shooting ability as they netted 54.1% (33-61) from the field and 41.2% (7-17) beyond the arc. In comparison, the Hawks shot 33.8% from the floor and 25.9% from three-point land.
Kyle Hrncir compiled a double-double in this afternoon's contest as he recorded 13 rebounds and 12 points on 5-7 shooting.
Noah King led the squad in scoring as he netted 21 points, going 8-14 from the floor and 3-4 from long distance.
Jake Hilmer followed close behind him with 19 points, while contributing a team-high five assists.
Upper Iowa jumped out to an 8-2 start, foreshadowing their hot-shooting display as they hit over 70% of their field goals in the first eight minutes.
The visitors led 34-27 with 4:47 remaining in the first half when a 12-0 run with scoring from five different Peacocks expanded their advantage to 19. They concluded the first stint up 47-30 while shooting over 50% from the field and beyond the arc.
The two teams exchanged baskets in the early part of the second period, until Upper Iowa scorched the nets with a 10-0 burst to put them ahead 76-52.
The Peacocks maintained their margin for the remainder of the contest, securing the 87-61 victory.
Upper Iowa kept Rockhurst to exactly 20 points under their average of points given up to opponents per contest. The Hawks' 61 points is the least the Peacocks defense has allowed this season.
Upper Iowa is back at home next weekend for a pair of games as they host Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and McKendree on Saturday at 3 p.m.
