The Peacocks have doubled their win total from last season, winning their fourth game on the year. UIU was ranked below Quincy in the preseason polls but that would be hard to believe as they simply outplayed the Hawks on every end of the field in a commanding 4-1 victory.
It only took a little over two minutes for the Peacocks to get back to their scoring ways as sophomore forward
Fabio Bender lobbed a perfect pass right on goal that was headed in by sophomore midfielder
David Mateo Porras Rodriguez. A chippy foul that resulted in a yellow card on the Hawks occured in the 15th minute, setting the Peacocks up for a free kick. Graduate defender
Daigo Adachi did what he does best as his perfect lob pass was headed in by sophomore defender
Florian Deick. This would be Adachi's GLVC leading fifth assist on the season. The Hawks had two shots on goal to try to narrow the Peacocks lead in the first half but both shots were saved by sophomore goalkeeper
JJ Gonzalez-Hayes. The Peacocks were fouled inside the box in the 41
st minute and as a result were awarded their first penalty kick of the season. Who else, but graduate forward
Thomas Walle stepped up to take the penalty kick, which he rolled into the bottom left corner of the goal giving the Peacock a 3-0 lead before halftime. This would be Walle's fourth goal on the season, which leads the GLVC.
The Peacocks dominance only continued in the second half and Quincy's defense couldn't find any answers. The Peacocks scored their fourth goal of the game in the 58th minute on an amazing play by Porras Rodriguez. He torched the Hawks defense dribbling past and through multiple defenders before scoring his second goal of the game and fourth on the year. In celebration, he ran over to the bleachers and danced for all the Peacocks fans. Quincy played more aggressively in the final 20 minutes of the game, attempting numerous shots on goal. Gonzalez-Hayes made a diving save in the 77
th minute, quickly recovered and made another save off his deflection just a second later. He would once again record back-to-back saves in the 86
th minute giving him eight saves on the day. He was only 18 seconds away from recording the first shutout of his collegiate career until the Peacocks defense gave up a penalty kick. While Gonzalez-Hayes dove the right way, he was just inches away from making the save as sophomore forward Gavin Higgins scored for Quincy. While it wasn't a shutout, the Peacocks ultimately walked away with their fourth 4+ goal game of the season and they now sit at 4-2-1 on the season.
Upper Iowa will look to continue their scoring dominance as they travel to the state of Missouri for the second time this season. The Peacocks will face Drury on Friday, Sep. 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Southwest Baptist on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 2:30 p.m.
