Upper Iowa women's soccer opened the season and the GLVC/NSIC crossover with a 0-2 loss against NSIC opponent Concordia-St. Paul.
The Peacocks played very aggressively in the first half and had a few great opportunities to score. Their first shot on goal came from sophomore midfielder
Darci Faichnie in the 23
rd minute, but was unfortunately saved by junior goalkeeper Jessi Jordan. Sophomore forward
Rachyl Benavides would follow that up a few minutes later, as she had a great shot in the 27
th minute that made it past the goalie, but hit the top of the crossbar. Freshman midfielder
Aeryn Hatico came off the bench recording her first career shot on goal, which was saved once again.
Concordia-St. Paul's senior forward Katie Anderson dominated the first half attempting six shots, four of which were on goal and one that found that back of the net. Anderson's goal came in the 39
th minute after sophomore midfielder Clare Snapko lobbed a perfectly placed corner kick right in front of the net, which Anderson headed in.
Concordia-St. Paul took a 2-0 lead in the second half as junior midfielder Sydney Manthana scored a very chaotic goal after a ricochet off the post bounced right in front of her, allowing her to tap it in off her chest. The goal was assisted by senior midfielder Sophie Pawlyshyn. Upper Iowa's Faichnie attempted her second shot on goal in the 79
th minute, but CSP's Jordan made an incredible save. That would be UIU's last shot on goal, as Concordia-St. Paul would go on to win the match 2-0.
Junior defender
Katrina Kazluski and sophomore goalkeeper
Isabelle Wagner were the only two Peacocks to play all 90 minutes, while Wagner additionally recorded four saves in the match. Junior defender
Chloe Jarosz played all but three minutes and midfielder
Mariangela Meneses led all freshman in minutes with 80.
The Peacocks look to close out the GLVC/NSIC Crossover with a win on Sunday during their 8:30am matchup against Winona State.
