Peacocks Conclude 2023 Campaign at NSIC Outdoor Championships

The Upper Iowa women and men's outdoor track and field teams sent qualifying athletes to the 2023 NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships that took place on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13 at Sea Foam Stadium on the campus of Concordia University, St. Paul. The UIU women came in 14th place while the men placed 12th.

On the women's side, Minnesota State won its fourth NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championship behind an impressive performance at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Mavericks, which also won the 1983, 2016 and 2022 championships, scored a NSIC record 274.4 points to finish 177.4 points ahead of second place Augustana.   Five NSIC records fell at this year's championship

For the Peacocks, Kiana Maghanoy was the only individual to score points as she placed 6th in the discus with a toss of 41.99m, earning three points for the Peacocks. Maghanoy also competed in the hammer throw (42.92m). Jade Martin represented the team in their third field event, throwing the javelin a total 27.06m. Ashley Donovan participated in the 3000m steeple (11:45.91) and the 800m (2:29.54). Jillian Dodds rounded out the running events with a 1:00.89 finish in the 400m dash. UIU brought two relay teams to the championship event. Their first relay was the 4x100m consisting of Mackenzie Rader, Dodds, Leah Ries and Kysta Ramirez, where they crossed the line in 43.76. Their second group was Rader, Dodds, Donovan and Martin who completed the 4x400m relay in 4:08.63.

On the men's side, Minnesota State won its 11th straight NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships behind an impressive performance at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Mavericks, which have won 13 of the last 14 titles, scored 207 points to finish 116 points ahead of second place MSU Moorhead. Four records were set at this  year's championships.

The Peacock men grabbed five points over the three days, a combined total from the performances of Jaylen Hobson in the triple jump (13.78m), earning sixth place, and Ethan Klemme in the high jump (1.87m), taking seventh place. Hobson also participated in the long jump, launching 6.55 into the pit. Brennan Matthews threw the discus 43.11m while Gunner Meyer ran the 110m hurdles, crossing the finish at 16.21. UIU brought two relay teams to the championship event. Their first was the 4x100m relay, made up of Meyer, Jarrett Kruse, Klemme and Hobson who completed the race in 43.76. Their second crew competed in the 4x400m relay and included Klemme, Bryce Baker, Peyton Halverson and Nathan Goranson who ran for a time of 3:37.45
