The Upper Iowa baseball team put on a show at Robertson Woods Field on Tuesday as they scored 23 runs on 22 hits across two games to secure a pair of wins vs. Bemidji State.

The Upper Iowa baseball team put on a show at Robertson Woods Field on Tuesday as they scored 23 runs on 22 hits across two games to secure a pair of wins vs. Bemidji State. The Peacocks won game one by a score of 13-2 before triggering the 10-run mercy rule in game two to win 10-0 in seven innings.

The long ball was a major factor in UIU's offensive output as five different players hit six home runs across the two games, highlighted by two solo home runs in game two by Victor Plaz. Cael Luzum, Ryan Hull, Justin Baehler, and Brock Zimmer led the team in run production as they each drove in three runs across the two games.

Upper Iowa (7-9) will put their three-game winning streak on the line this upcoming weekend vs. the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. The site, dates, and times of the upcoming series are subject to change and will be communicated as soon as possible.

Upper Iowa 13 –  Bemidji State 2
After both teams traded runs to open game one, UIU took a 3-1 lead in the second inning behind an RBI groundout by Ethan Sawyer and a RBI single by Hull. The offensive explosion began in the fourth inning when the Peacocks added three runs to take a 6-1 lead, highlighted by a triple to right field by Luzum that scored one.

In the fifth inning, Baehler made it a 9-1 scoreline by smashing a baseball over the left field fence for his first home run as a Peacock. The following inning, after UIU had scored on a wild pitch, Zimmer joined his teammate by connecting on his own home run that drove in the final three runs of game one for the Peacocks.

Colin Lacey (2-2) picked up the win after successfully pitching around six walks thanks to only allowing two hits in five innings while striking out four. Isaiah Maes finished the game, allowing one run on two hits but striking out three batters in two innings of work.

Upper Iowa 10 – Bemidji State 0
Neither team found a way onto the scoreboard at the start of game two, but the Peacocks broke through in style in the third and scored in every inning after. JJ Vargas and Sawyer went back-to-back with solo blasts to left field to help UIU jump out to a 2-0 lead. Plaz made it 3-0 the following inning when his liner clipped the top of the left field fence before settling on the other side for a home run.

The Peacocks went on to score three runs in the fifth, highlighted by a single by Bryce Hall that scored two, before taking a 7-0 lead in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single by Luzum. In the seventh inning, Plaz led off by leaving no doubt on his second home run of the game, sending a towering shot over the fence in left center. After UIU manufactured a run thanks to a balk by Bemidji pitcher Christian Turner, Hull ended the game with an RBI single to center for the home team's 10th run of the game.

Austin Shingledecker (2-1) earned the win by throwing five innings of relief, only allowing four hits while punching out five batters. Shingledecker, along with starting pitcher Jason Jennerjohn, combined to hold the Beavers to four hits, the lowest total by a UIU opponent so far this season.
