The Upper Iowa tennis squad rounded out their weekend of play falling 6-1 to Minnesota State at the Winona Tennis Center. The Peacocks drop to 0-5 on the season while the Mavericks improve to 6-1 on the year.
The Peacocks were defeated in the doubles competition to start the day off. The duo of Johanne Valle and Rafaela Tavares were trumped 6-0 in the No. 1 slot.
Varvara Ogorodnikova and
Alex Garcia competed in the No. 2 spot and fell in a 6-1 final. Upper Iowa forfeited the No. 3 dual.
UIU picked up one win in the singles matches. Tavares conquered MSU's Daria Podmogilnaia in the No. 3 spot with a score of 6-7 (8), 6-1, 0-1 (7). The Peacocks were unable to come out on top in the rest of their duals that day. Ogorodnikova was defeated by Freia Lawrence 7-6 (6), 6-2 in the No. 1 singles. Valle competed in the No. 2 slot and fell to her opponent 6-1, 6-3. Garcia was trumped by McKenna DeMarce 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot.
Katie O'Brien was defeated in the No. 5 singles competition 6-0, 6-0. Upper Iowa forfeited the No. 6 singles dual.
Up next, the Peacocks are back in Minnesota next weekend for a pair of matchups. They kick things off at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, Mar. 5 and then travel to St. Cloud State University on Sunday, Mar. 6.
