The Peacocks traveled north to Winona, Minn. for two conference duals this weekend. They faced Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday and fell short in a 5-2 decision.
Upper Iowa started off with the doubles matches. The duo of Johanne Valle and Rafaela Tavares competed in the No. 1 spot and battled SMSU's team of Leonard/Almeida, but came up shy in a 6-4 final. In the No. 2 spot for doubles,
Elaina Wall and
Varvara Ogorodnikova fell 6-4 to the team of Indio/Wiens. Lastly, UIU's
Katie O'Brien and Alex Garcia dropped in the No. 3 doubles 6-0 to Madikwe and Oye.Â
UIU picked up two wins in the singles competition at the No. 1 and No. 2 spot. Starting things off strong, Ogorodnikova continued her win streak in the singles matches as she defeated Leonard 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot. Valle claimed a win in the No. 2 dual as she trumped her opponent 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
The Peacocks were unable to pick up another victory on the day. Tavares dropped to Madikwe 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot. Garcia made her UIU tennis debut in today's dual as she played in the No. 4 slot and fell to her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Wall competed at No. 5 and was defeated by Paccieri 6-1, 6-1. To conclude the singles matches, O'Brien faced Wiens in the No. 6 spot and fell in a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
Upper Iowa is back in action tomorrow as they take on Minnesota State at 1:30 p.m. in the Winona Tennis Center.
