Donny Schmit scored an upset win in Upper Iowa's final dual of the season to earn NSIC Wrestler of the Week honors. The award marks the eleventh NSIC Player of the Week for Upper Iowa and second for a Peacock wrestler. Donny Schmit answered the call for Upper Iowa at 141 pounds against No. 12 Brock Luthens of Minnesota State University, Mankato. The graduate student from Readlyn, Iowa scored a 5-3 decision in his final collegiate match to post the upset. Schmit scored first with a takedown and added a second takedown in the second period after an escape. The win was pivotal in UIU's 21-14 win at MSU to secure a tie for third place in the final standings. Schmit posted a record of 5-2 this season with one win coming by fall.
Upper Iowa will send 10 wrestlers to the NCAA Super Region V Championships in Aberdeen, S.D. on Feb. 25. The top three wrestlers in each weight class at the NCAA Super Region V Championships will earn a berth to the NCAA Division II Championships on Mar. 10-11.
