Peacocks Clip Bulldogs in Vengeance Victory; Hilmer Reaches 2,000-Point Milestone

The Upper Iowa men's basketball team came out with a chip on their shoulder tonight as they trumped Truman State 105-79 in a redemption matchup after falling to the Bulldogs last Saturday on the road. The Peacocks grabbed their first conference win of the season and improved to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the GLVC. Jake Hilmer added to the exuberance of the evening as he eclipsed the 2,000-point mark, becoming the third Peacock in program history to achieve the accolade.

UIU's defense held Truman State to 79 points in tonight's contest, 18 less than they recorded last week in Kirksville. The Peacocks stayed on pace with their high-scoring habits as their total of 105 was 19 more than they tallied in last Saturday's matchup against the Bulldogs, and 16 more than their team average per game (89.4).

Noah King led the squad tonight with 23 points, going 9-13 from the floor and 3-3 from three-point land. Hilmer and Caleb Delzell each added 20. Delzell went 6-7 from beyond the arc, aiding the Peacocks in their 61.5% (16-26) effort from long distance. The Bulldogs shot 5-20 (25%) from downtown, where one week prior they netted over 60% against the Peacocks.

Neither team held more than a three-point lead until the Peacocks were able to string together a 10-2 run with 12 minutes remaining in the first half, commanding a 25-20 advantage. Truman State knocked down back-to-back jumpers to creep back within one, but Upper Iowa retaliated with a 13-0 burst, fueled by scoring from Delzell, Hilmer and Reid.

The Peacocks put up one more slide as they outscored the visitors 10-0 to close the half, grabbing a 53-32 lead before going into the locker room.

UIU put up 52 points in the second half to break the 100-point threshold for the second time this season, while TSU recorded 47.

The Peacocks had contributions from the majority of their lineup tonight, as eight players each recorded at least two points, one rebound and one assist. Kyle Hrncir was near a double-double as he hauled in eight rebounds and scored nine points.

Hilmer paced the team with six assists and Reid added five.

Christian Haffner saw his season high as he netted 11 points, fueled by three baskets beyond the arc and one jumper.

Upper Iowa sees one more action in the month of December before taking a break for the holidays. They host Saint Cloud State here in Fayette on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 12 p.m.
