Volleyball Enters Final Homestand in Search of GLVC Tournament Berth

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK VOLLEYBALL … The Peacocks welcome two more conference teams into Dorman Gymnasium this weekend as they conclude the regular season. UIU is set to host Missouri S&T on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. and Maryville on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m.

LIVE COVERAGE… There are several ways to stay connected with Peacock volleyball for fans who are unable to make it to Fayette this weekend. There are both live stats (free) and a pay-per-view webcast available through the links attached with this story. Fans can also refer to UIUPeacocks.com/Live for all links on each gameday.

DIGITAL GAMEDAY PROGRAMS… Digital programs are available to fans in the gymnasium or at home for the two matches this weekend. Fans can access the interactive gameday program at any time at UIUPeacocks.com/Programs. QR Codes will also be located around the lobby to scan with your cell phone's camera that will link you directly to that game's specific digital gameday program.

PROTECT THIS HOUSE… Senior Kaci Beesecker eclipsed 1,000 digs after her performance last weekend when she tallied 40 digs in two matches. She is averaging 4.21 digs per set and recorded her season-high of 26 digs against Illinois Springfield earlier in the year. Her career-high is 30 digs in a set, which she reached in 2022 against Augustana University. Beesecker will continue to climb the standings in the record books for digs in a season, currently at 400, and number of digs in a career, where she is currently at 1,000.

SCOUTING THE MINERS (Courtesy of S&T Communications)… Missouri S&T comes into play this week tied with Indianapolis and Maryville for fifth place with a 6-5 GLVC record – the Miners have won four straight and are 15-9 overall. In addition, S&T is 10th in this week's NCAA Division II Midwest Regional rankings.

The Miners rank second in the GLVC in blocks with 2.18 per set and have one of the league leaders in blocks per set individually in Madison Offerman, who has 55 blocks in 57 sets.  S&T also has another player among the league leaders in Carrillo, who is 10th in service aces with 38.

Madelyn Mason continues to lead the Miners in kills with 308 on the season and owns an attack percentage of .249. Mia Alessio leads S&T with 357 digs, while Annie Arand has 536 set assists on the season and Elise Mehaffy has recorded 493.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS… Maryville enters this weekend at 6-5 in the conference, which is tied for fifth place alongside Missouri S&T and Indianapolis. Their most recent match was against the Miners last weekend as the Saints fell in a 3-2 decision. The Saints hold an overall 15-10 record on the season.

Maryville ranks second in the GLVC in total digs as they average 18.70 per set, led by Taylor Hashbrook who averages 5.48 digs per set (second in the GLVC). The Saints are led in kills by Emma Brinkmann with 3.29 per set (.206). Abbie Schnell paces the team in assists with 5.74 per set, followed by Rachel Schipper with 4.60.

CELEBRATING SENIORITY… This Saturday the Peacocks will recognize their four seniors who will graduate in the spring. Please join us in celebrating Kayla Veto, Vitoria Kazanovski, Kylee Oldenburger and Madelyn Rettler as we thank them for their dedication and commitment to the Upper Iowa volleyball program.

WHAT ARE THE ODDS?... In a situation where they can control their own destiny, Peacock volleyball has two crucial matches this weekend, as one win will grant them entry into the conference tournament. Additionally, two wins this weekend could possibly place the team as high as fifth in the GLVC while they are currently ranked eighth. In a circumstance where UIU loses both upcoming matches, they still have the potential to make the tournament, but would be dependent on teams below them in the standings to lose their matches.

ON THE HORIZON… The eight conference teams that qualify for the postseason tournament will compete in Williamsville, Ill. on Nov. 16-18.
