Rodriguez and Adachi Earn All-GLVC Honors

The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced their Men's Soccer All-Conference Teams, which recognized two Upper Iowa midfielders. Sophomore Mateo Rodriguez was named to the All-GLVC First Team, becoming the first Peacock to be recognized as a First Teamer in six years and Graduate Daigo Adachi was named to the All-GLVC Second Team.

Mateo Rodriguez came to UIU from Bacone College this season, and made an immediate impact. He assisted on two goals in his Peacock debut, before scoring his first goal of the season in the very next game. Rodriguez would finish the nonconference season with a goal and an assist against Monmouth, and would later score a goal and record two assists in the Peacocks victory over William Jewell. He scored a career high two goals against Quincy, before assisting on the game-tying goal in UIU's very next game. He scored his final goal of the season in Upper Iowa's historic victory over #7 Indianapolis. Up 1-0, Rodriguez's shot found the back of the net, which would secure a 2-0 victory for the Peacocks. He finished the season with six goals and six assists, becoming the second Peacock to record six+ goals and assists in a season. Rodriguez recorded 18 total points which is tied for the second-most in the GLVC.

Daigo Adachi came to Upper Iowa from the University of Jamestown this season, and started in all 17 games for Upper Iowa. Adachi assisted on two goals in his Peacock debut, and followed that up with assists in back-to-back games against Mount Mercy and Monmouth. He recorded his first assist of GLVC play in Upper Iowa's 4-1 victory over Quincy and would later score his first goal while also picking up an assist in the same game against William Jewell. Adachi assisted on the first goal of the game in the Peacock's monumental victory over #7 and followed that up with his second one goal one assist game on the season against Lewis. Adachi finished the season with two goals, and his eight assists are tied for the most in a single season at Upper Iowa and the second most in the GLVC this season.

Sophomore defender Dexter Garrett was named a GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award Honoree. Garrett was the anchor of UIU's defensive line as he led all Peacocks in minutes with 1,395 and scored two goals in the season opener against St. Ambrose.

Upper Iowa finished the season with a record of 7-7-3 while going 4-7-2 in conference play, finishing 9th in the GLVC. All three All-GLVC honorees will be back next season, as Adachi has one more year of eligibility, while Rodriguez and Garrett have two.
