Flyers Soar Past Peacocks in Three Sets

Upper Iowa volleyball completed their weekend on the road as they faced Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill. and fell in a 3-0 decision. The set scores were 25-16, 30-28 and 25-18. The Peacocks fell to 10-15 (5-6 GLVC) while the Flyers improved to 21-6 and 9-2 in conference play.

The Flyers started off hot as they grabbed an 11-2 lead in the first set. The Peacocks were not able to compete with their high-powered offense as they were defeated 25-16. Upper Iowa had ten kills with a 0.093 hitting percentage while Lewis had 11 kills (.189).

The second set was a back-and-forth battle until the very end as each team was unwilling to give in, pushing the score to 30-28 in favor of the Flyers. The Peacocks showed their resilience as they were down 24-19, but rallied off five straight points to tie things up at 24 apiece. The UIU defense continued to be tested as the last three points of the match all came from kills executed by LU for the 2-0 lead going into the third set.

Lewis had their best match statistically at the net in the last go-around as they registered 19 kills with a hitting percentage of .349. With a 19-18 lead, the home team rallied off the six straight points to win the set and earn another conference victory.

Lydia Imbrogno led the way with 13 kills, followed by Zoe Semelroth with seven. Nicole Pozorski handed out 28 assists and Kaci Beesecker picked up 15 digs.

The Peacocks host one final homestand to wrap up the regular season next weekend. They welcome Missouri S&T on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. and Maryville on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m.
