Peacocks Travel South to Test Bulldogs

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK FOOTBALL… Upper Iowa football travels to Kirksville, Mo. on Saturday for their last road game of the season as they take on Truman State at 12 p.m. Upper Iowa comes into the weekend 3-6 (1-4 GLVC) while the Bulldogs hold a 7-2 record and 3-2 mark in conference play.

LIVE OPTIONS… Fans unable to make it to Kirksville on Saturday have several options for following the action. The game will be streamed on the GLVC Network at https://glvcsn.com/truman/ with pay-per-view access. Live stats (free) can be found through the link attached with this story. Both options can be found every game day at UIUPeacocks.com/Live.

RECAP OF LAST WEEKEND…  Upper Iowa traveled to the state of Indiana to take on the No. 10 University of Indianapolis last weekend and fell in a 35-7 decision. The Greyhounds pounced on the Peacocks early as they put up 21 points in the first quarter. UIU scored a touchdown in the second quarter in an attempt to remain within striking distance, but Indianapolis would go on to put another 14 points on the board in the second half.

UIU scored their only touchdown of the evening in their second possession of the second quarter with just under three minutes left in the first half. The Peacocks were at the IND 30 on 2nd and 10 when quarterback Darryl Overstreet Jr. launched a pass to Eddie Burgess in the Greyhound endzone.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS... Truman State ranks second in the GLVC with a conference mark of 3-2, having fallen to Indianapolis 38-17 and Southwest Baptist 20-17 just last weekend. The Bulldogs have made an appearance in the AFCA National poll throughout the season, but only received votes in the latest update. They have executed an average of 29 points per game, while allowing their opponents 18. Their stellar defense is listed the best statistically in the conference after only allowing their opponents 278.8 total yards per contest.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET (Courtesy of TSU Communications)… The Bulldog football team has played the Peacocks on three other occasions with the last coming in 2007. In what was the first night game in over a decade at Stokes Stadium, Bulldog quarterback Matt Ticich lit up the scoreboard with a school record 493 yards passing and totaled 516 yards of total offense in a 55-31 win over the Peacocks. The Bulldogs led 38-10 at half while Ticich tossed four touchdown passes and Vanness Emokpae caught seven balls for 170 yards. As a team, Truman finished with 33 receptions for 536 yards that evening.

The other two Truman/Upper Iowa games occurred back in 1965 and 1941. Both were played in Kirksville and both saw the purple and white come out on top.

MORE FOR MORROW… Mante Morrow leads the GLVC in receiving yards with 619, an average of 68.8 per game. He has been one of the primary targets for the UIU quarterbacks as he has acquired six touchdowns on the season with his longest reception being 49 yards.

BULLDOG DEFENSE… The Bulldogs are built on a stiff defense, only allowing 18.6 PPG on the season. That mark only trails the UIndy defensive unit, who have allowed 13.1 PPG. The Truman State defense is tops in the conference in yards allowed per game, only surrendering 278.8 yards per contest. The Bulldog defense has also proven to be a capable scoring weapon as well, as the Bulldogs have returned 3 interceptions back for touchdowns, the only GLVC team to achieve that mark.

ON THE HORIZON… Upper Iowa competes in their last contest of the seasons next weekend as they host Quincy University for Senior Day at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
